We fly into Chania mid august. Looking for closest resort with pool and on beach - looking for relaxing more than touristy things - other than maybe taking a ferry to another island.
Thanks.

Closest? Kathathos or Stavros. What do you mean by resort?

Do you mean 2014---most places will be booked months in advance.

Contact www.diktynna-travel.gr in Chania to see if they can find you anywhere on a beach at this late date.

Thank you for your responses. this is a very last minute trip. I realize we might not have many choices.

By resort mean a self contained property. However, a really nice hotel with a pool and walking distance to a nice beach would be decent as well.

OK. Not my sort of place, but I see Perle Resort and Thalassa Resort. Both look fine (not personal endorsement..)

Ok. We are back. We LOVED Crete. The sunshine, the heat, no complaints what-so-ever. We found accommodation at the Santa Marina resort. Loved it. Right on the beach: sand beach. We purchased with breakfast included and I was not overly impressed: tinned fruit. However, we made do with the greek yoghurt with honey, feta cheese with tomato and cucumber, lol. We didn't starve. No espresso based drinks before 10 am. Not sure what that was about. This property caters to tour groups so, no real concierge. When we asked for a restaurant referral they sent us to their sister property with the identical a la carte menu. However, no complaint even about this. We took the bus into Chania nearly every night and ate like kings and queens very inexpensively. Zero language problems. We would happily re-book here. One employee stood out, i think her name was Filio. (Cant find my notes) but she is one "on the ball" lady! Oh, book a bike tour. We did a winery and the Biolea olive oil factory. Fan-tastic.
