We've found three different Premier Inn in the city center - Lauriston Place, Haymarket and Princes Street, which one is better and close to Waverly station. By the way, the princes st.'s one the most expensive among all of them.

Have you considered looking for them on a map of the city via google earth? You will need to familiarize yourself with it anyway if you're going to visit.

For a reason - it is most central. It would be my choice of the three. Directly across the street from Princes Street Gardens w/ a view straight up to the Castle. Around the corner from Rose street w/ TONS of pubs/cafes/restaurants

Lauriston Place would be OK too - quite a bit of a hike from some places but not too far from the Castle or Grassmarket.

We stayed at lauriston place and it was fine. Would stay there again

We stayed at Princes Street in March. It's a great location - ask for a room with a view and you have the castle directly in front of you, lit up at night. Stunning.

It's a 10-15 minute level walk from Waverley Station - follow the signs for the Princes Street exit, go up the escalators through the shopping centre, turn left, and keep walking till you get to New Look.

Rose Street, with its many restaurants and bars is directly behind. There's a Tesco Express/Metro 2 minutes away if you need any essentials.

If I ever go back to Edinburgh, that's where I'm staying again. I wouldn't even bother to look anywhere else.

Thanks for your replies, booked at Prices St. one. Now , need to get there from Waverly station with luggage and kids - that will be a headache...

As anicecupoftea says, your hotel is an easy walk from the station. Just up the escalators and turn left. Only a 9 minute walk according to Google Maps. Be sure to pack light. Now herding kids, I don't know.

It is definitely walkable -- but suchda specifically mentioned kids/luggage. If that means toddlers and lots (too much) luggage t would be a schlepp.

yes I know . . . easy -- but not w/ toddlers and a slew of luggage. It ALL depends on the OP's situation. Hopefully they are packing so everyone can manage their own bags.

It's more than 5 minutes, almost the far end of Princes Street, and the pavements will likely be crowded with shoppers and tourists. It was easy for adults with wheeled cases, but trying to hang on to kids as well might be too much. In which case, the taxi ride will be so brief it can't cost much.

BTW, if you haven't already, contact them and request a room at the front.

I will do the walk on Saturday,i will limp all the way and I still reckon on 5 minutes and that includes waiting to cross the road.

And there are problems getting taxis in the train station now and you may have to go to Market street (opposite direction to Princes street)to get a taxi.

I suggest you go to the national rail train site www.nationalrail.co.uk and have a look at the station map for Waverley. Lifts rather than escalator might work better for you. It all depends on which platform your train arrives and which exit you need. Waverley is not the easiest station to find your way about. Check out the website unclegus mentioned too. It's certainly a short walk, but due to crowds, kids and luggage a taxi will be easiest.
