Ideas about the trip.

As a family with two small kids, we are heading to Morocco around October 2014 and we are in contact with a local tour company (road to morocco tours). i was given this itinerary and i would love some ideas about traveling with kids in case this company didnt cover all. thanks
Day 1: Casablanca airport to Fes
Day 2: Fes Sightseeing
Day 3: Fes - ziz Valley- Erfoud- Merzouga.
Day 4: Merzouga area - camel trek and overnight in the desert camp
Day 5: Merzouga - Toudgha Gorges - Dades Valley
Day 6: Dades Valley - Ait ben Haddou Kasbah - Marrakech
Day 7: Marrakech Sightseeing
Day 8: Transfer to the airport

The itinerary seems a little aggressive to me--especially with small kids! We were in Morocco for 11 nights in May and used public transportation to visit Rabat, Fes, and Marrakech.

Along the way, we used local guides recommended by the hotels/riads where we stayed. Seven nights isn't so many--you could get a real feel for Morocco just visiting Rabat and Fes or just Marrakech with day trips to the Atlas Mountains.

Hoping you'll get other opinions! Morocco is fascinating!

Thanks Marsle.
I didnt hear good things about public transportation especially if you are going to visit the sahara desert of Merzouga. i actually meet the company owner in the states and he was very knowledgeable about the area. Personally, i have had enough daydreaming, so i want to visit the dunes...
good to mix the trip and get some quietness away from the big cities. i head marrakech is such a noisy and large city.

If I were you, I'd be willing to give it a try--especially if you've met the owner and feel good about his company! Marrakech is noisy and challenging--our least favorite of the places we visited! The markets there are fun to visit--just stay away from the snake handlers in the center of the main square!

Have a great time!

We did an almost identical trip to this (only in reverse) with our kids when they were 14 and 11, so I imagine a bit older than your kids. It was amazing - the camel trek and night in the desert definitely a family experience to remember! The only thing I would warn you about is that it is a lot of driving in a short amount of time so make sure your kids are up for that. Here is a link to my trip report which also includes pictures. Marsle and jgg , thank you so much for your contributions.
thanks for your advice about the long driving tip. beautiful pictures you took. it looks like it was a lot of fun. Do you think our itinerary is good or you suggest we spend some more days in a particular place?

Autumnmom65 thanks for your suggestion but we already booked with Road to Morocco Tours. i met the owner in california as he is a US citizen as well and he is very nice. thanks for your help though.

James - There is a lot of driving and one overnights which can be hard, but I don't think there is any other way to do it when trying to go from Fez - Merzouga - Marrakech. I personally would want an additional day in Marrakech, but you just don't have the time to add it unless you added some more time to the whole trip. We only spent two nights in Fez (one full day) and I wish we had an additional day. The drive from Merzouga to Marrakech is quite long and needs to be broken up with an overnight somewhere as you are doing, so like I said, unless you can add more days to the trip, I think you've got the best itinerary you can do.
