It seems the govt in Myanmar is quickly and widely opening it's business practices for foreigners to do business in their country. Well, I'm glad I visited the country before the 7-11s got there.
Is this the best thing for the people at this time? Without details, I sincerely hope it benefits most of the people .. not just the generals. Are they ready for this? Or is it moving too fast?

I like the photograph. A SE Asian capital city without motor bikes is a dream, long may that last. All those white cars look like air-conditioned taxis.
There's a heck of a lot of buildings in the big cities (Yangon and Mandalay) that need levelling, guaranteeing 24/7 electricity supply, the general infrastructure sorting out.

7/11 is an AMERICAN shop. To see it anywhere else is because they have IMPORTED it from America. It is not native to ANY other country (neither is Kentucky Fried Chicken etc.) What that statement meant, is that I am glad I got there while it was still mostly Burma(Myanmar) and Asian vs being WESTERNIZED like Thailand.

LL thanks for the link. It seems if you blink you are behind the times for the CURRENT situation in Myanmar! Things happening so quickly. While I look forward to the people having a better standard of living, I hope some wisdom prevails and they create a better place to live, not just a different place. It is an opportunity to share it with all. I'd hate to see it 'owned' by foreigners and the generals and the populace remain as poor as it is now.

Hate to break this to you, but 7-Eleven USA is a Dallas based US company - owned by Seven and I Holdings of Tokyo Japan. It has been Japanese controlled since the late 1990's. There are twice as many 7-Elevens in Japan than in the US - in a country the size of Montana.
