Myranmar VISA

So I am looking over the VISA and have a few questions:
1) Myranmar address could be my first hotel in Yangon?
2) Work History: They request me to fill out current job and previous job.
I'm retired. and previously I was a freelance graphic designer.

Will they be ok with that? I don't want to put the wrong thing down and be denied my VISA. So appreciate any advice anyone has.

Also will be arriving Oct 29th. Departing on November 16.

And the VISA is good for three months from the day it gets issued. So planning on sending my passport to Washington mid August. Figure with process time, I should be ok with my VISA. Does this sound right?

Thanks for your thoughts

1/. Yes your 1st hotel in Myanmar will do.
2/. I have only heard that people have problems if they put down something to do with journalism. I would put down retired and graphic designer as the previous.

I agree with Hanuman.

When they aren't too busy, the embassy will have your visa back in a week, when they get overwhelmed, it will take longer. Sending your passport in August will be fine. The visa you get is good for entry within a three month period, then you get 28 days from your day of entry to Myanmar.

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for your kind reply. Your support has made my travel plans so much easier!

I do have another question. Going over the VISA application they request:

"evidence of the trip copy of air ticket/itinerary"

Since I'm my itinerary throughout Myranmar has been arranged through a travel agent in Myranmar. I don't have those tickets. I do have my Arrival ticket and departure ticket from Myranmar But NOT the air travel within Myranmar. I suspected I would get these tickets upon arrival to Yangon. I guess I need to contact my travel agent and see if they made my flights and if they can forward me copies of the air tickets. Is that correct?

I've applied for VISA's before, but Myranmar's Visa application has the most request of a traveler then any I've encountered.

All they, the Myanmar gov, want is the international portion of your flights so yes the arrival and departure tickets will do. As for the itinerary just print a copy of the one you got from the travel agent.

Good luck!

Hanuman is right. I've applied for a lot of visa, but Myanmar's takes the cake! And they asked me all of those questions in person as I entered and as I left!

thanks for clarifying this. The last thing I need if for them to return my passport without VISA because I misunderstood their request. I wish they were clearer. Because simply saying copy of Air Ticket Itinerary can mean not just international portion but also within the country itself!

Thanks for the question and the replies...
I have another one. You say when they are not to busy the passports are returned in a week or so.

So my question is we will be entering Myanmar on March 21, 2015. That means the earliest we can send our passports is December 20th or so...over the Holidays which I think is very bad timing!!!

OK, so we wait until Jan 2 to send them in. Is this a busy time? The problem is, we leave for Australia on Feb 5 so where is very little room for problems, including weather induced delays. This passport has our India visas and we will be visiting India again on this trip. I hate to let the passports out of our hands!

Has anyone used the Myanmar TA to get the visas?

I can understand your concerns. While I would expect sending them in on Jan 2 would be fine, if it will make you feel better, then ask your local Yangon travel agent to get a pre-arranged visa for you. If you are using this agent to set up flights and hotels, there will be no problem. If you want to use an agent for a pre-arranged visa only, there will be a charge for the service (as well as the usual visa charge).

I've always gotten the visa from the embassy in Washington, but I know of other people who used an agent because they were, like you, going to be traveling elsewhere before their trip to Myanmar.

Cwn, I would think a month is plenty of time to get your visa in the states, but as alternatives there are Myanmar Embassies/Consulates in Bangkok and Canberra if you are going to either.

Thanks,

Kathie,

We are using Myanmar Shalom for everything...cars drivers, hotels, flights and river cruise, but not the Bangkok Air flights in and out. I will ask Tin.

Last year the weather at that time was terrible on the East Coast and mail coming and going that direction was delayed and misplaced(?). It is one of those things that if it can go wrong it will. If we had Feb here, for a back up, I wouldn't be worried.

Sartoric,

A month has always been enough time for our other visas, but then we still had a month of so before we needed the passport so there was a back up plan. We will be in Australia for a while, really looking forward to visiting again, but not near Canberra.

I actually thought about Bangkok, but we only have to full days there before flying on to Myanmar, Thurs and Fri. Plus that is really cutting it close....

I will contact the agent and see what he can do. There seems to always be a wrinkle or two!

Since you have an agent in Yangon, do use them. It will be the least hassle of the options.

Sartoric,

Since I couldn't find UA fare for my FF miles and the cruise was $3000 dollars less than the airfare, we will arrive in Sydney on Queen Elizabeth...part of her world cruise. We don't like the long distance flights at all so this works for us. Then we will fly to Tasmania for 11 days then back to Melbourne for some time on the GOR before heading to Bali and on to SE Asia. Not as long as I would like in Australia, but I am really looking forward to driving around Tasmania!

I am so excited. We spent nearly 2 months in Australia in 2009- Sydney, both cross country trains, WA, Darwin, SA and parts of Queensland. had an absolute ball. We rented cottages and did lots of side trips thanks to suggestions from Melissa8 in the Australia board.

Thanks Kathie,

I will contact Tin. I too think that may be the best way!

That's right cwn, I remember asking you about Oz on another thread. Amazing that QEII is cheaper than airfares, given unlimited time I would do the same to avoid those long haul flights.

Enjoy Tassie, shamefully perhaps, I haven't been there yet. I don't like the cold weather, but will get there one day. I've just returned from a week in Melbourne and surrounds, freezing for me, but a family wedding so no choice on the dates. If you can loop back from GOR via Ballarat it is well worth a night or two. The Ballarat Fine Art Gallery is interesting and easy for mobility restricted people. They have free guided tours and lots of spots to sit and enjoy the art plus a great cafe and gift shop. Sovereign Hill is an attraction that replicates a gold mining town of the late 19th century, that was during Ballarat's heyday.

Sorry to hijack Artyguy....

no problem, always good to hear about everyone's travel plans. Appreciate all the info. Cheers!
PS: Great that US Citizens don't need a Visa for Thailand. One less hassle!

Oh, last question.

Do you think the VISA people will want to see my ticket for Bangkok to USA?
Or will the ticket that pertains only to Myranmar suffice: Mandalay to Bangkok.

I think they'll only want to see the ticket pertaining to Myanmar, ie. Mandalay - Bangkok.

Sorry about taking your thread off track for a bit. The Myanmar visa timing for us is not good, but yours should go smoothly.

Hope you have a great trip. Come back and tell us about it.!

Happy travels
Carolyn
