Qater Airlines - 3 hr layover in Doha now 13 hours

Qatar airlines has alerted us to a schedule change that will lengthen our layover time in Doha, Qatar from 3 hours (perfect) to 13 hours. It also changes our arrival time at our final destination from 1 pm to after midnight.

The last time we flew on Qatar, we went through the old airport in Doha and barely had time to get to our connecting flight. It sounds like the new airport is up and running (and beautiful). Is there a good place to relax at the airport during our long layover?

Thanks for your help.

The new airport has a hotel inside the terminal - that's where I'd go.

Otherwise, they have quiet rooms and lounges.

Sapphire, I just read a lengthy thread about Hamad International Airport on Trip Advisor. It seems the airport hotel will open on June 30 and the Onyx lounge is currently operational.

There's some interesting info on the thread, you might want to take a look:

Thank you both for your replies. We ended up canceling our Qatar flights and booking with another airline. The change in flight times just wasn't going to work with our travel plans, and the change in schedule was for that day only - not the day before or after. Qatar was very understanding, and I appreciate the way they handled our request. I will forward these links to our friends who are flying Qatar in a few days. Thank you again.

Harrry - Just seeing your question about the change of timing, and as far as I know it was just changed for that day. Not sure why.

Our friends who flew on Qatar were very impressed with the level of service, the quality of the food, the comfort of the plane and the new airport.

Some time ago 60 Minutes featured Qatar. Tons of oil money and a population of 250k means education and healthcare are free. When other states were in turmoil like Syria and Libya what did Qatar do? They double the military salary and increased the police salary by 60%. No problems.
