San Francisco Tours: Alcatraz and City tour
Hello!
DH and I will be in SFO over July 4th weekend and would like to see Alcatraz - hopefully in the morning - and do a city tour. Any recommended tour companies? Also, are there any neat walking tours or food tours you'd recommend?
Thank you!

Good luck trying to get tickets to Alcatraz at this late date for that time period. Buy online one, if you see availability.

As for tours, you will have more luck - the SF Public Library offers donation only walking tours that are excellent! There are dozens (actually several dozens) of different tours, covering any interest you might have. No reservation for almost all. Do leave at least $5 per person ,more if you are only doing a few walks, they are non-profit and you would pay MUCH more for paid tour. The money goes to the program; NOT the guide - who are volunteers. We have done over 20 of them and all have been excellent.

You are likely SOL re Alcatraz. Jump on the park service link ASAP (like yesterday) and book any opening available. Can't be picky at this late date and be resigned to not being able to get out to the rock.

If you act fast, Viator has tickets for Sunday July 6 at $125 a piece that includes admission to Alcatraz; most of theirs only circle the island. Better hurry....
