San Francisco Hotel - Marine's Memorial Club & Hotel

I stumbled upon the Marines Memorial Club & Hotel on TripAdvisor. Looks like an awesome place as it's rated #13 of 236 SFO hotels.

http://www.marineclub.com

Seems to have great amenities:

1: Air conditioned
2. WI-FI
3. Great location - Sutter at Mason
4. $219.00 per night for a queen room for two persons
5. Free full breakfast each morning in 12th floor dining room with views of SFO
6. Free, two hour cocktail hour each evening with *all* drinks included, not just wine and beer.

The hotel as an interesting back story as it originally was limited to active members of the armed forces, but now accepts reservations from anyone.

Does anyone have personal knowledge of the hotel, location, etc? Your thoughts are always appreciated as we finalize our hotel plans.

Thanks!

We stayed there, oh, 15 or more years ago, when it was open only to active and retired military; back then, it was very well kept but slightly dated. We didn't mind because it was so much less expensive than every other hotel in the immediate area. Sorry my experience isn;t more recent! I didn't know it's now open to all.

Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated. Yes, the hotel is now open to anyone but does offer substantial discounts to current military members or to members of their club.

We belong to MARINES MEMORIAL HOTEL. The rate for vets is around $149.00 per night for a double with free breakfast and happy hour along with discounted parking next door. I get their newsletter and know they are in process of remodeling the rooms floor by floor so you need to check for reservations quick. I believe they have completed the restaurant remodel.

We love the place. It feels like an old time officer's club. The new management is doing a great job. Be sure to check their web site for any potential plays, entertainment in the attached theater while you are there. Check out the library on the 8th floor. Leon Uris wrote many pages of BATTLE CRY sitting in this room. All the books are military and the fireplace sitting is fantastic. Hard to beat deal in SF.

The location is fantastic as well. You can walk a few blocks down hill to Union Square and the Curren Theater. We use the hotel to stay when we go see a play at the Curren. The cable cars are real close on Union Square as is all the shopping.

Thanks for the recommendation! I really wasn't sure which hotel to book and read through tons of reviews on sites like http://san-francisco.hotelscheap.org/ but the price for this one seems unbeatable. Great location too!

Good location, next to the theater, on a bus line if you don't have a car, if the price is right for you - grab it.

have stayed there as well. Good location. not luxury but very nice and good breakfast. Had no idea they opened it up to all. thought you had to be a member of the Association. They have affiliates in other cities as well for reasonable prices.
