LISBON VS BUDAPEST
Hi, I'm planning to travel during June end '2014 to either budapest or Lisbon.
We are a couple ,30 years of age , can spend 5-6 nights in either cities , we enjoy great food ,cafe culture , LITTLE BIT OF SITE SEEING , pubs and shopping.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Or even pros and cons of each city ?

Well either would be pleasant, I find Hungarian food generally nicer than that of Portugal but the wine the other way around though Tokaji is exceptional. Spas are clearly better in Budapest. Neither city is great on shopping though if you love Linen then Portugal is the place to buy it (even if it is Irish, Turkish or Chinese).
June makes me think you will prefer Lisbon, you always have the atlantic breezes while Budapest will be settling into the short sharp storms coming down the great plain.

Well, I much preferred Lisbon to Budapest. And not for any of the reasons bilbo lists above, I just felt happier and more comfortable in Lisbon. For me it had a better ambience, feeling, spirituality if you like. Maybe it was the warmth, maybe what I thought was better food and wine.

Flip a coin. Each city has its own attractions, cuisines, wines, east versus west European, each with a long but different history, contrasting sorts of old empires. Both have hills. Only you can choose, based on a little closer personal introspection of what you are interested in. I'd gladly spend more time in either city. How can you lose?

I could find an excuse to keep going back to Budapest. But I also have enjoyed a few trips to Lisbon, but really feel I have visited most places there now, whereas Budapest has more of the dance and music culture I enjoy so much. The spas are unbeatable.
And this view from Spoon Café? I NEVER tire of this place.

First off, you will not find many Pubs in Lisbon, but you will find a lot of bars and nightlife, if that's what your are looking for. Both destinations are fine, but completely different. It would appear, if I am not mistaken, you are not interested anything of major cultural value in either, only food, pubs and shopping.

Brands berg u said Lisbon was dirty could u pls tell me why did u find it dirty , Thanks Bilbo , Julia ,,Southam , Lin and Robert . From your feedback Can I just conclude that Lisbon is more beautiful with great food and nightlife , whereas Budapest is also beautiful with great food and nightlife but they do not have a bar culture , they have more of nightclub scene . Also I would like to know which out of the two will have better shopping . Which place out of the two has more activities and better hotels also
