Admit I haven't done too much research into this yet, but have some questions about visiting this area. Have searched Fodors and little recent info.

Will have 4-5 days, mid-week, in June and want to visit Rockport, Gloucester, Salem, perhaps Ipswich and Marblehead or any other interesting towns or activities. Looking for great beach or cliff walks and quaint towns/waterfronts to explore.

Any suggestions for a nice B&b or inn that is in a scenic location or close to walks? Food? Looking for seafood and of course those whole bellied clams.

This place is gorgeous with many walking trails and beautiful views.
There are also very expensive rooms( no doubt booked). It is on the very lovely Crane's beach.

The North Shore is not Boston, btw.

I also recommend Crane's Beach. Halibut Point State Park in Rockport is another beautiful spot with interesting history.

in Salem I would recommend the Maritime National Historic site as well as the Peabody Essex museum.

Definitely Newburyport! Lovely town on the water. Lots of great restaurants and shops. Plum Island is very pretty too.

Marblehead is well worth a visit. It's a real town, not just a tourist town, and has many, many historical homes along old, winding roadways. Downtown is very walkable. I live near there.

Is anyone familiar with the Seafarer's Inn in Rockport?

Yes, it is nice, comfortable rooms, fair prices. Not fabulous breakfast.

With the ideas you've already given, it sounds as though we may have to extend our trip a few days. Any other suggestions or "must sees" in this area?

Seeing less than positive comments about Woodsmen Restaurant. Any you would really suggest? Looking for good local food; doesn't have to be gourmet dining.

Definitely skip Woodmans. In Essex go to Farnhams not too far past Woodmans. The Village restaurant is very good, straightforward fresh seafood with very varied menu. If you like large portions, informal go to The Causeway in Gloucester. For picturesque go to Rocky Point in east Gloucester and if its warm go to The Rudder and sit outside on the water. You will love walking around there; it looks like a picture book.

I would choose time in Gloucester/Rockport over time in Marblehead. Salem is great and definitely take in the Peabody Essex Museum.
