Biarritz car rental

Renting a car for 3 days with pick-up and drop off in Biarittz, choice of pick-up seems either train station or airport. Has anyone had any experience with car rentals here or suggestion on which location might be better? Looking at Autoeurope for the car rental. My credit card could be my primary insurance but for 3 days should I just add on an the extra charge and settle for their CDW? Open to your thoughts.

In my case, if I accepted their CDW it would not be as good as using the credit card to cover the CDW because a deductible would be applied in case of needed repairs--my CC coverage had no deductible.

Driving in Biarritz is not an overwhelming problem. Choose whichever location is more convenient. Either pick-up location will probably impose a 30€ or 35€ fee (standard for picking up a car at a train station or an airport). If you are looking at prices offered by local agencies, compare them to prices offered by brokers such as www.kemwel.com.

The airport and train station are both good locations for picking up and dropping off, easy access to the A-63, but you'll probably find a little better selection of cars to choose from at the airport.

As far as the CDW goes, if your credit card offers complete coverage (Amex Platinum does at no additional cost), then you need to decline the CDW. The deductible for the CDW can be in excess of €900, depending on the class of car.

If your credit card does not offer zero deductible, then, with a three-day rental, you may want to consider the cost of the zero deductible CDW if you feel you need the coverage. Zero deductible can double the cost of a rental.

Thanks Michael and Robert, I think I'll go with the train station since I'll catch the train to San Sebastian when I drop off the car. Also I will double check my credit card but I'm pretty sure it's full coverage so will decline all the CDW from the car rental. Price difference for same car, kemwel and autoeurope, less than 1E.
