Trip suggestions for 3-5 day vacation from New Orleans?

My boyfriend and I are looking to take a short vacation just to get away over a weekend during the summer. Does anyone have suggestions for inexpensive 3-5 trips that you could easily fly/drive to from New Orleans? Suggestions for resources we could easily browse for good travel deals from New Orleans are appreciated too! We are open to staying in the states or even doing a quick beach trip outside the country. Only preferences include places that are relaxing with good food and culture.

Miami! Cuban food, Art Deco buildings, fun zoo, people watching, nice beaches, Vizcaya, what's not to love?

Your train options would be the Crescent to Atlanta (leaves 7AM) or The City of New Orleans to either Memphis or Chicago.
The CONO leaves NOL at 1:45PM every day and is in Memphis at 10PM and Chicago about 9AM the next morning. Even if it is late, you still get to Chicago in daylight.
Driving I would suggest Biloxi MS or maybe South Padre Island TX.

Inexpensive is a meaningless word unless you define what it means to you.

One person might say $5000 for a weekend for two is inexpensive. What would you say?

dulciusexasperis, we are thinking no more than $1000 for trip, preferably in the $500-$750 range.

That makes a big difference obviously gao25. Now you just have to say whether that is per person or for both of you. Whether it includes transportation costs or not. Whether you own a car and could drive without having to rent.

The more relevant information you provide the more relevant responses are going to be. No one has a crystal ball and knows what your circumstances are.

I'm guessing you mean under $1k for both of you including transportation. That to me says the best would be if you own a car and can drive somewhere. That's going to be the cheapest way to go.

How about San Antonio, Texas as a destination? It's an 8 hour drive from NO.
