I've used the Borghese docents for tours. They are small groups and cost E5 per person. That's a huge price difference and I can't imagine that anyone could give a better tour than the museum docents. The Rome Museum tour says it's about 2.5 hours but you must leave the museum after your 2 hour time slot is up; if you don't leave you'll be yelled at loudly to get out. And the site also claims no lines but there is a line to check your belongings. You can't get away from that line unless you bring nothing with you - no purse, no jacket, etc.

You can't book the tour ahead. The guides are located by the audio guide area, near the entrance. There's a room when you first enter and behind that is a larger room. The guides and audios are on the right (unless they've changed location since I've been there but it will be easy to find). BTW - I've done the guided tour twice.
If you're really interested in this museum (and it is fabulous), book 2 back to back tickets so you have 4 hours inside. 2 hours just isn't enough.

Thank you adrienne. Did not know you could book back to back. Did you do the second tour on your own with no guide? I would love to do this but don't know if I can talk my sweetheart into it.

Yes, I did the second 2 hours on my own. You have to exit and enter again but it only takes a couple of minutes. You exit on the first floor and enter through the main entrance on the ground floor.
BTW - read the Borghese information on their site. The English tours are only in the morning, I believe.

We felt the 2 hours was sufficient, but as always YMMV.
