Best family hotel in Arenal
We're a family of 4, 2 boys ages 8 and 9 and we'll be traveling to Arenal for 2 days in late April. We are considering staying at The Springs Resort and Spa, Lost Iguana and El Silencio del Campo- in this order. I understand that the first 2 are about a 30 min. drive to town and the last one is a 5 min. drive. We're torn about where to stay especially given the price difference between TS and the other 2. Is it better to stay close to town? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

We've stayed at the Springs Resort and Spa, and it's fantastic. If it's in your budget, that's would be my pick. If you'd rather have a get away from it all feeling, the Lost Iguana is in a nice jungly setting out by the lake and away from town, kind of rustic elegance. Silencio del Campo gets consistently good reviews; it's not as upscale as the others but still really popular. You could be happy at any of them. To me it's only important to be close to town if you want to go into town to eat at restaurants. The Springs Resort and Spa has several restaurants on site, and the Lost Iguana has a nice open air restaurant. If you do tours, they'll usually pick you up and drop you back off at your hotel whichever one you pick, but they might charge a little bit more if you're further out. We didn't see many kids at the Lost Iguana; I think some people prefer to stay somewhere with springs if they're bringing their children, although LI does have a small pool.

I agree with Volcanogirl; although if you're at Lost Iguana and have a car, you're a lot closer to the road up to SkyTram/Skytrek (http://www.arenal.net/tour/skytram-skytrek/)and also very close to the Arenal Hanging Bridges (http://www.hangingbridges.com)

Good point; you can walk to the Hanging Bridges from the Lost Iguana if you want to. It's right next door. When we were there they sold discounted tickets at the front desk, but not sure if they still offer that.
