London Indian Restaurant recommendations in or near the Fitzrovia area.
Hey folks!
Muy wife and I will be letting a flat in the Fitzrovia area of London in mid June. We're close to the Goodge Street and Warren Street Tube stations. We're looking for your Indian restaurant recommendations. Please advise at to your favorites in or close to Fitzrovia and also include an idea of how expensive they are...I know...I't's London, right?

The classic answer to your question is the Indian YMCA at 41 Fitzroy Square. Standard Indian buffet offer, of the sort you'd get in most posh hotels in any major South Asian city, for about £7-£10 a head.
Completely without a hint of fusion food, cuisines from obscure states, any of the "invented by NRIs to turn into a chain they can float" nonsense that pervades most recent South Asian places in London or the influence of Western celebrity chefs.
If you're happier with the silly stereotypes that "I't's London, right?" implies, might be too authentic for you, though.

"It's London right?" refers to the fact that restaurants are expensive in this city.
Please advise as to quality and type of Indian food.

Another resource I use all the time is www.toptable.co.uk and refine the search to your area and Indian food. You can read reviews, menus, see price ranges, book a table and even get deals.
It's very easy to google the names of the places once you have them to get their own websites to see their full menus and prices.

If you don't mind a little tube ride…
Warren Street → Oxford Circus → Green Park
Change train Green Park → Hyde Park Corner → Knightsbridge → South Kensington
From So. Kensington, walk about seven minutes to Noor Jahan.
"Hopping off the tube at South Kensington, I realized I had left the address of the Indian restaurant we were going to for dinner back at the hotel, but I knew its general vicinity, so we started walking.
Kim ducked into an Indian restaurant competitor (perhaps to curry favor) to ask where our Indian establishment was located. They pointed him in the right direction. We finally hit the street that I knew I would recognize when I saw it (Bina Gardens), and as we turned right on Bina Gardens there was Noor Jahan (www.noorjahanrestaurants.co.uk).
It was a great choice for our first dinner. The restaurant was elegant, and the wait-staff was professional and courteous, explaining many of the dishes in detail to four weary travelers.
The Garlic Naan was so good that I blurted out, “This bread is second to Naan!” Shaking their heads, Kim and Mary were sad they still had 15 more nights with me, but they probably had more sympathy for Tracy who is stuck with me for life.
Tracy had the Shrimp Curry (waiter recommended) with fried rice and fried onions. Kim tried the garlic chicken with fried rice while Mary had the lamb with basmati rice. I asked for a really spicy dish, and Noor Jahan’s chef went off menu to prepare a special, hot Chicken Curry dish. I still had some slight feeling in my lips and gums after finishing. Thank heavens for the Cobra beer to put out the fire.
Dinner was tremendous. We always joke that when the four of us dine out, the bill somehow comes close to $75 a couple. Our bill on this evening was…£96 (about 75 dollars a couple), and Noor Jahan fit the bill for us. We highly recommend it."
On the walk back to the station stop in the gelato place about a block away.

Not in Fitzrovia but worth the trip for some of the best Indian food I have had - Rajasthan at 49 Monument Street, London EC3R 8BU http://rajasthan1.co.uk/
If you Google you will see they they have two other locations in the EC part of town. Was introduced to this one by gracious and knowledgeable fellow Fodorite PatrickLondon after sharing a pint with Fodorite spotlight couple jamikins and BikerScott, and it's a great memory.

Our favourite curry place isn't in the area you are looking, but it's just east if tower bridge on the south side called Bengal Clipper.
