Carrying mothers ashes via international flight
Hello I am going to be traveling from US to China hoping to have my mothers ashes with me so that she maybe buried with her mother in China. Is this allowed? I've got the copy of the death certificate and the certificate that she was cremated. I have looked into TSA and United (flying with United) and they have said that it is okay for domestic flights but I am unsure about an international flight. Any guidance or tips are much appreciated. Thankyou.

Few years back my friend took his dads ashes from US to UK. No issues. I know because I was traveling with him. TSA asked what's in it but he was honest and they had no issues. UK customs did not ask anything.

I took a friend's ashes from Guatemala to the US last year on American Airlines and had to put them in a checked bag. I put photocopies of all the documents in the bag and kept the originals with me. No problems.

Speaking as one who has had delayed/misdirected luggage 9 different times I would never put anything of value in a checked bag. Your mother's ashes are priceless, please carry them on.
Please accept my condolences for your loss.
