Hotel in Sydney

Our uncle and aunt who are in their late 70's will be taking a cruise that will end in Sydney. They want to stay overnight in Sydney before flying back to US.

Their plane leaves at 3pm the next day.

What do you think would be the best hotel and location?

The are looking to spend no more than $200 US

Thank you for your help.

The Grace Hotel would be roughly US$200, but it will depend what the exchange rate is at the time they are here and the fairly variable rates hotels depending on the time of year and day in the week.

It's a centrally located Art Deco hotel. I haven't stayed there as I live in Sydney, but friends who have liked it a lot.

Their best option would be to stay in one of the big hotels near where their boat docks which is also close to some of the popular tourist sites. However, that's like asking for a hotel in Manhattan or London for $200US.

Susan7's idea is good.

www.wotif.com.au & www.bookings.com

Use Sydney CBD as a location - Circular Quay and / or The Rocks as a sub section. This will give you an idea of what's available & costs.

As Cathie & Susan7 note, $200 is rather on the lean side for a good hotel in prime location here.

With that budget they might also check out the Travelodge Wynyard which is nearby Wynyard station on the City Circle Line which will take them to the airport. Gets mixed reviews [but was our favourite for visits to Sydney until we moved back just recently] -

I guess the Grace hotel would be perfect for the location and service you want. Might go up the budget slightly, but you can look for better rates by early bird discounts. Completely agree with fellow posters.

Thanks for the help. I think we found a good deal at the Sofitel, Sydney. Looks like a great location

You may have booked already, but I can highly recommend Meriton Serviced Apartments on Kent St. We stayed here at the end of our cruise last fall. Easy taxi ride from the port and lots of excellent restaurants nearby with great Asian food. The apartment was spotless and the view from the baclony was simply awesome.

And we only paid about $150 US on Booking.com: http://www.booking.com/hotel/au/meri...b48ffd7;dcid=1

They may also consider the Castlereagh Hotel, 169 Castlereafh street ( between Market & Park Sts ).
It's a small boutique hotel in a charming old building. Great central location.
Steps to the major retail sector, St James & Town Hall stations.

My niece is there now - got it for $160.
Recently refurbished but retaining its charming old features. Rooms are small, but quite adequate.

Local bar/ bistro in a piazza next door would be good for breakfast - or take the $15 hot breakfast in the magnificent dining room.
