I think I screwed up my Paris hotel reservation! Did I???
My husband and I made our first trip to Paris in 2012. We rented an apartment at the Place de Voges which was lovely, except we seemed to spend more time in the 6th. We are headed back in June (looking forward to longer daylight & warmer days then our visit in December)! I wanted to book a hotel in the 6th, but the ones I really liked did not have availability for our 5 nights.
So, I googled hotels in the 6th and found one that sounded perfect plus they had 5 nights available and the reviews were almost all 5 star! I booked it, but it can be cancelled. I was just so relieved to find a hotel that was really nice and available. Upon reading more reviews, someone said it is in the 16th. Double checking, I realized, that's right. The hotel is the St. James at 43 Avenue Bugeaud, 75116 Paris, France. The pictures look beautiful.
Are there restaurants close by? I realize it's not far to the Arc de Triomphe which I didn't care for the crowds in that area when we were last there. I really liked the energy of St. Germain. Any advice?

Cancel the hotel and keep looking for one in the 6th if that's where you enjoyed spending time last time. There are over a thousand hotels in Paris you could book, and the fact that you booked this one only because you thought it was in the 6th doesn't seem like a good reason to keep it.
FYI, you can see the "Street View" of the street of any hotel you book on Google Maps/Street View. Go to maps.google.com and type in the address, then click on the little yellow "man" above the plus button (left side of the map) and drag the man to the spot you want to see.

We LOVE the 16th and think it is great place to stay for someone's 10th to 15th trip to Paris. Fabulous architecture, not many tourists, but no "major sites".
Cancel & find something in the 6th.

I looked up your hotel on a map because I also like staying in the 16th but not everyone does. Your hotel looks like its further away from the Arc de Triomphe then where I have stayed. I was only a block or two from the Arc de Triomphe and it was not very touristy at all. It also looks very close to a metro stop which in my opinion is key. However, if you don't think you would be happy staying there then continue to look for something else. It's your vacation and your money so do what will make you happy.

Thanks for the insights. When my husband came home, he feel in love with the website for St. James, so I have to find something in the 6th that will charm him! Any ideas of places in the 6th? I've looked at Hotel Luxembourg, Relais St Germain, Hotel D'Aubusson, Relais Christine, but none had the dates that we needed.
Thanks for any help.

Ira, funny! He did love the sound of the birds on the website, so your suggestion might work!
Thanks for the suggestion Judy and Elizabeth. I checked their website & it looks lovely, however, all the rooms have double beds & I'm afraid 1 of us would end up getting knocked to the floor. We're a little restless & need at least a Queen bed!
I'm looking at the Victoria Palace Hotel at 6 rue Blaise Desgoffe, Le Saint Gregoire and Recamier. The Victoria Palace rooms look a bit busy, but they have a king available, the Le Saint Gregoire has a really good price & location & the Recamier has such a nice decoration. I think I'll just throw a dart!
Sidny, the Luxembourg was one of the first ones I tried to book, but the dates didn't work. It looks really nice.

We always stay at Hotel Millesime in a superior room. See if they have your dates open.

How about the Angleterre. We stayed there on our first trip to Paris in '78. Also about 17 years ago.

I'm a bit confused - you found a hotel that you liked, yes? Husband likes the looks of this hotel from the website? but there was some confusion about the location 6th or 16th? do I have this correct? If so, I'd keep that hotel. Two posters familiar with the area have said its OK and less touristy than the 6th (that would be a plus for me). Metro access is decent. Go ahead and look in the 6th and see if you like something better, I'd suspect it will be pricier but I think what you have already lined up sounds very workable.

I've stayed in the Victoria Palace and am not sure what you think is "busy" about the rooms and I'll say no more other than we found the hotel to be excellent in many ways. But in this case, well...

The Victoria Palace hotel is somewhat similar to le Regent but is located on a very quiet street between rue de Rennes and Cherche-Midi in the 6th. I walk past this hotel at least once a day and it looks wonderful plus it has great bus connections a short walk away.

Thanks everyone. At least I now have a jump on the next visit to Paris! I've decided to keep my reservation at the Victoria Palace Hotel. Will let you know how it goes. I just realized I've been obsessing over Paris and I need to be concentrating on the Provence part of the trip!
