Driving between St. Remy -Provence to San Sebastian, Spaine

We had planned on flying or train to San Sebastian, but each takes so long, we've decided to drive. Any suggestions for an interesting place to stop part way there? We plan to turn the car in at Bayonne, and rent another one in San Sebastian, due to the drop-off charge in another country. If anyone has another suggestion, we'd be glad to hear it!

I would "budget" 8 hours for that trip. So if you leave St Remy at 8:30 you would get to San Sebastian at 4:30. That doesn't leave you with much time to stop anywhere. IMO, you can visit Carcassonne and get something out of it in 2 hours, but that puts you in San Sebastian at 6:30. Fortunately, dinners are late in Spain. I would not stop in Toulouse - that would take at least 4-5 hrs (including finding a place to park).

Have you checked flights - like several people suggested on your other thread?
