What to do with an 85 year old in Nassau?
We are sailing on the Carnival Pride, out of Baltimore, and will make a stop in Nassau. It seems a little silly to book a shore excursion. My sister recommended travel to Atlantis under our own steam. I understand it's easy to get to, but there will be some anxiety about potentially missing the boat. I am wondering what else might be an easy option.

Atlantis is huge and requires a lot of walking, so it may not be the best option.
I was just in Nassau last week and had an enjoyable trip to the John Watlings distillery and then the Graycliff to see the chocolate and cigar factories. Or perhaps you could just go to the straw market and then have lunch at the Fish Fry on Arawak Cay.
There's a fair bit of walking just to get to the Straw Market. If you want to have a low key day, the Hilton is nice and has its own beach. It's right in town.
I loved Atlantis, but it's expensive. I wouldn't worry about missing the boat. Even with traffic it's no more than 20 minutes back to the pier from Atlantis. Faster by ferry.

Walking isn't really an issue as long as it's reasonably level. He uses a rollator but it's mostly for balance, and his stamina is pretty good. Our progress is slower than it used to be, but he can still cover as much as a mile. Ladders are problematic, and uneven surfaces can be too, as are environments where there isn't enough room for the rollator.
My concerns would be more with environments that are confusing or very crowded, and of course, we always want to do something interesting.

Atlantis does have a nice aquarium you can walk through (both above and below the water), and it's much cheaper to do that than buy the Aquaventure pass. And there's a big shopping mall, including some nice less expensive outdoor restaurants near the Marina where you can have lunch.

I really like the Kennedy Space Center, and it's very close to Port Canaveral. All the ships run buses there. If he's at all interested in space, I'd choose that over a 90-minute drive over to SeaWorld. That can be a very exhausting day.

My sister is taking him the next week (very long story) and she had dibs on that. Also, while he'll enjoy it with my nephew, he was a journalist/editor and attended a couple of the Apollo launches, so it may be a little anti-climactic. He's between Animal Kingdom and Epcot, and whichever we do, we'll probably spend a lot of time napping on benches and not try to see everything.
