Eu rail pass or normal trains
Hi,
Good day!
Following cities we plan to visit during our stay in italy.
In order
Arrive in rome
To napoli (same day visit to pompei)
To florence ( same day pisa return trip)
To bologna
To venice
Well my question is can we go to multiple places on a day pass? we plan to purchase italy 4 day pass
Also my kid will be 2.2 at the time of travel. Do we have to purchase the ticket or is it free?

Almost certainly point to point will be cheaper. Book you tickets as soon as possible to get the cheapest tickets on www.trenitalia.it. I think you can book 90 days in advance...

What does this mean? Round trip in one day from Rome to Naples?
If it also means that for Florence to Pisa, the train cost on that route is less than 10€ one way. That route is mainly served by regional trains (no reserved seating).
Between major cities such as Rome, Naples, Florence, Bologna, Venice, most people use the faster trains. Passes don't include the mandatory seat reservations for these trains (10€ each).
Your child will travel free.

No i mean we will move from rome to naples. Check in at hotel and then go for a day trip to pompei and come back to naples. So it will be 3 trips in a day. Similarly when we reach reach florence from naples we will check in at hotel and then take a day trip to pisa and come back to florence.

Are you planning to visit all these places in four days?
No train pass makes sense for Italy, where the prices are low to start with, and advance purchase discounts make them even lower.
Your child can ride free, but won't be guaranteed a seat. On the reserved trains, you may not find an empty seat near your reserved seats and would have to hold the child in your lap. In this case, just indicate two adults when you price the tickets on the Trenitalia site. If you want to ensure a seat for your child, you'd have to get a child's ticket (half-price) for him. You might want to price the option of two adults, one child, anyway, because there is sometimes a special offer called Bimbi Gratis, where any child rides free WITH a reserved seat. Then you can decide whether to declare the child or not.
For the regional trains, such as the one between Florence and Pisa, it's best to just buy the ticket at a train station. These tickets are good for two months, and can be bought at any station in Italy. Just before boarding the train, you have to stamp these tickets in a machine on the platform, near the head of the train. The train from Naples to Pompeii is not included in a pass at all (it's a local line, but is cheap). The train from Rome's airport isn't either unless you bought a 1st class pass.
You can buy advance purchase tickets for the fast trains from Trenitalia at a discount between most of the major cities (around 19€) which includes seat reservations.

Agree that only point to point tickets make sense for relatively short trips within Italy.
But I don;t understand your itinerary. Have you looked at the schedules. If you take a fairly early (8:40 am) train from Naples to Florence you won;t arrive until 11:30. You then need to allow at least 1.5 hours to get from the train station to your hotel, check in and/or drop luggage and get back to the train station by 1 pm. Without having had lunch. So have lunch in Florence and get to Pisa at 3pm or get to Pisa around 2 pm and then have to organize lunch. Doesn;t give you much time in Pisa and is a long day/trip for a toddler.
Are you planning to spend additional days in each lace - or just hop to a new city every day?

The local commuter line (Circumvesuviana) you would take from Naples to Pompeii will be around 2.5€ each way.
The regional ticket for Florence/Pisa/Florence should be bought in Italy, not online. The online regional tickets have more restrictions than those purchases in Italy.

Thanks everybody for the feedback
We have narrowed down what we want to see and experience according to our interest. Our main interest to see different sites.
only reason we are going to pisa is to see leaning tower which my wife wants to do.

Your plan is fine, as long as you want to visit ONLY Pompei, Pisa, Bologna and the center of Venice. If you plan to see more, you will run into serious difficulties.
BTW: There is a direct train from Naples dp 7.31 to Pisa ar 13.00.
