Want To Try a New Area To Stay- Thoughts On These Two Neighborhoods??

I am looking at two different neighborhoods for a September visit to Paris. We have stayed several times in the 6th and 7th. I also spent a week in the Marais several years ago. I thought it would be good to stay in a new area, to experience a possibly less touristy side. I'm not sure if these qualify...I believe these are all considered in the 9th:

40 rue Tiquetone (50 meters from Rue Montorgueil)
Metro: Etienne Marcel

Rue Etienne Marcel.
metro: Etienne Marcel

Rue Condorcet
Metro: Anvers or Poissionnere

I have also been considering a place in the upper Marais, very close to the 10th.

Your input is MOST appreciated! I still owe you all a trip report from our December trip. Company leaving tomorrow. Hopefully I'll finally have time to sit down and write it!

You might what to repost this under "France" instead of just Europe in order to receive some good responses. Or include "Paris" in the topic.

I just stayed a week in an apt off of Rue Montorgueil. I had stayed in the 6th & 7th in all my previous trips to Paris.
I absolutely loved this area & especially rue Montorgueil for the food shops. The whole area was full of new discoveries. I wrote about some of them in my ongoing trip report. I also asked about this area and got some good reviews-you can also see that thread by clicking on my name.
Etienne Marcel was the metro stop we used but we also took taxis as a lot of times it seemed that it was easier rather than making a few transfers on the metro. The taxis were never more then about 15 euros.

I like the rue Montorgueil area and would definitely stay there. It is a lively area with lots of shops and restaurants and an easy walk to the Marais and the Louvre. The Etienne Marcel metro stop would get you to the 6th very easily.

I'd probably choose the first one, Etienne Marcel is a pretty major street, not sure I'd want to be on it. Your first two seem very close to each other, they aren't that different neighborhoods, but those 2 aren't in the 9th arrondisement nor even very close to it. That's the 2nd arrondisement. I've also stayed several times near St Georges metro in the 9th, which I like a lot -- the one on rue Condorcet isn't too far from it, although I can't recall what that particular street is like. There are lots of tourists not far from there, near Anvers metro and the Pigalle area, but they generally don't stay in hotels a few blocks south of that street, which is where Condorcet is.

Tiquetonne is near a passage. I guess I'd pick one of the first two, but it wold depend on the apt. I'd make sure the one right on Etienne Marcel wasn't too low or the bedroom didn't look over the street.
