LONDON: safe, fun budget hotel for college girls
My college-aged daughter and niece will be spending some time in London in early March.
I'm trying to find a hotel that is less than $200 per night and is centrally located, but also fun and safe.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

They can stay in a hostel in London for a lot less money. They can also get a hostel with a private room and a private bath, which is what my college-aged kids did in London a couple years ago. They should be able to find plenty of well-located, well-rated and safe hostels with private rooms for early March.
I recommend that your daughter and niece research hostels on HostelWorld.com. My college-aged kids used this site to find many hostels in Europe and they tell me that the reviews of the hostels are quite accurate). Hostels are a great place to meet new friends, especially for college-aged people.

Dina, did they find something? The budget hotels I've been researching for that time period have quads, though don't know about availability. We like Bloomsbury area. We love the breakfast included places, and more friendly family feeling. I'll be visiting my daughter who's there this semester.

It really isn't.
If they're prissy about hookers, Marble Arch has now got far more of them. King's Cross is rapidly turning into the polar opposite of the (always inaccurate) cliches, with one of the world's great libraries, universities, an outstanding concert hall, galleries and newspaper offices tawdry dumps like Marble Arch can only dream of.
Now if they're offended by the possibility of bumping into Guardian journalists after the paper's been put to bed (personally I'd string them all up), they'd have my sympathy.
But tolerating such lowlifes is the price we pay for a free press.

Have stayed there a few times and a nice enough hotel but definitely not a fun one or in a fun area - tacky area, especially at night. Mice cheap hotel in a remote nothing to write home about area.

My college-aged daughter reports a fun student area in Camden nowadays, if that's a main criterion. Not as central, but not bad for public transportation. The only lodging I found around there was on airbnb.com, but I'm not a fun student.

YHA - the offical Youth Hoselling Association for the UK and a member of HI Hostelling International has several London hostels including a nice one at Holland Park, in an appendage of an old palace and in wonderful Holland Park - peacocks and all. Smashing location in South Kensington.

Hi, Dina. I somehow read that there were four girls, so ignore my "quad" reference.
St. Athans Hotel near British Museum is another possibility, or look at Gower Hotel maybe, too. We've stayed at Arran House a couple of times, too, and my college age girls love it, bath down the hall and all; it shows up in guidebooks and so is a bit maybe overpriced and more likely to be booked. I found that earplugs improved my Gower St. overlooking room earlier this year. We walked everywhere from Bloomsbury, like back from Covent Garden late at night, and it's easy to catch a bus to Camden from there if they felt like checking that area out.
Generator Hostel is likely to be too young, hip, fun/noisy for us, but maybe for your girls?

Z Hotel in Soho may fit the budget, depending on the dates and is right in the heart of Soho/Covent Garden.
I'm a big fan of the hotel and the location but be warned.... rooms are roughly the size of a mini Cooper, so the two of them better really like each other!

We stayed in a hostel (which shall remain nameless) in Bayswater. The area is fine, and they would be fairly close to a few Tube stations.
Check for availabilty at the YHA hostels instead - Oxford St., London Central, and St. Pancras would work - or the Astor or Generator hostels mentioned by others.
