Gulf Coast Florida Pet Friendly beach front hotel needed...

My husband and I (50ish couple) want to go to the Gulf Coast of Florida with our lab and stay on the beach. Does anyone know of a nice beachfront hotel that takes larger dogs with reasonable or no fees? Doesn't have to be the Taj Mahal, but don't want a shack laden with roaches or bedbugs. Something midstream would be great...I'm thinking Sanibel/Naples area or within an hour of those areas.

Any help appreciated...also if you know of dog friendly restaurants in the area, please share.

You may want to look at Siesta Key/Sarasota

There is a very nice Turtlebeachresort.com that I believe allows animals.

Most of the the outdoor restaurants in the city allow dogs. Siesta Key Village has few outdoor restaurants and downtown Sarasota also has few with outdoor sitting. wordofmouthsrq.com comes to mind. They allow dogs and even have water bowls set up for your pets.

There is also a dog park in Sarasota for your dog to run or play with others. There is even doggie bakery and day spa!

Silver Sands Villas on Fort Myers Beach is dog friendly and not expensive. It's across the road from the beach and within an easy walk of restaurants, etc. (www.silversands-villas.com) If you want to walk your dog on the beach Fort Myers Beach is dog friendly (south of the pier) and there is an off-leash dog beach at Lovers Key State Park not far away. Another option would be Venice, which also has an off-leash dog beach. Sanibel permits leashed dogs on the beach, Captiva does not. Bonita Springs does not allow dogs on the beach, nor does Naples.

Cape San Blas, FL has dog-friendly BEACHES. That way your dog can enjoy some time with you (ON the beach). It is on the Florida Panhandle and there are not time restrictions on when you can have your pup with you on the beach, which is nice.

It's a 20-mile long peninsula that doesn't have high-rise condos, so it keeps the beaches uncrowded. The last 10 miles of Cape San Blas is all St. Joseph Peninsula state park. Same beautiful, white sand as they have in Ft. Myers or Sarasota.

Don't know if you would be interested in a vacation rental or not. They give you more space, full kitchen etc. Here are some rentals on Cape San Blas and many are direct beachfront: www.thecapeescape.com/our-vacation-rentals/

Enjoy your time where ever you go!!
