Trip to miami, key west and orlando from San francisco

Hi,

I am planning to visit miami in mid april with my wife and 1 year old son for 5-6 days Please suggest some good beaches and places to stay. Important places that should not be miss?

We are thinking of staying in miami for two days then drive to key west for one and half days and after that flying from key west to orlando.

Which one is best- drive from miami to key west and thn fly from key west to orlando
Or drive from miami to key west and return back to miami and thn again drive for orlando.

Fly from Key West to Orlando. Southwest is flying till June I think. Delta will still be if not. It is a one hour flight. The drive from Miami to Key West is a very pretty drive. You will have a little traffic in Key Largo because of the traffic lights but it is not bad. Seven mile bridge is beautiful and you can still see some of what is left from Henry Flager's railroad. You should get reservations made if you are staying one night for April in KW. Stay close to the water or Duval so that you can park and walk. Make sure your hotel or B&B has parking. You will fall in love with KW. Very laid back and great food. One and half days there does not give you time for the beach but a walk on White St Pier is nice and the beaches beside it are ok. We go to the Navy beach so am not much help. I love Hemingway's house for historical places in KW. The Truman annex is a nice walk. Are you doing the Disney thing in Orlando? Stay on Disney property if you are. You get good benefits as far as early entrance and parking and is safer to stay on property.

You do know that it's a 3-4 hour drive from Miami to Key West. With just 1.5 days to spend in Key West, that seems like a lot of driving to me. Maybe just go to Key Largo?

Miami Beach definitely. Stay at one of the beach front hotels. You will have your little one with you so you won't be able to enjoy the nightlife there but you will have a great choice of restaurants nearby.

Drive down to Key West. For the most part you will be looking at tacky strip malls full of souvenirs, beach stuff, fast food shops, tatoo parlors, etc, but there are some portions of the drive that are just breathtaking. One suggestion if I may. There is a KOA campground on Sugerloaf Key. They do have cabins with kitchens and bathroom and RV(setup) for rent. Don't know how much it is. We have our own camper. They have a great pool, children playground, little beach front, and many activities. It's right on the water and you're only about 5-10 miles from Key West. There is a bus stop right in front of the campground that will take you to Key West. It's inexpensive, and you won't have to worry about parking in Key West. I believe it runs about every 1/2 hour.

Fly from KW to Orlando.

The beach in Fort Lauderdale is, in some ways, not as built up as is South Beach. The shopping, if you are interested in that, isn't nearly as extensive as it is in Miami. There aren't any art deco style hotels on the beach in Fort Lauderdale; the whole town and vibe are, shall we say, quieter than on South Beach.

I live in Fort Lauderdale...very different vibe than you'll get in South Beach.

You are trying to pack a lot into very few days. Do you really want to do Orlando - a 1 year old is really too young to enjoy it - and might like the beaches/sand st Key West better.

We are planning to fly on tuesday in april and returning back on next tuesday from miami.Which is the best day to drive for key west in between( keeping traffic in mind).

Fly into Miami and taxi to South Beach...Hotel parking is very pricey and you don't need a car there... stay Tuesday to Thursday night and leave for Key West after 10am on Friday...

there are rental cars available at hotels in South Beach...

check-in for Friday to Monday in Key west and stay in KW until 4pm... drive back to Miami Airport for tuesday flight home... good luck
