Hawaii, last minute family trip to Mauii

Well we did it. We had to cancel a family trip over Christmas and rebooked this time to Mauii. We are booked to spend 9 days in Mauii. We are staying at the Grand Wailea . We got an amazing deal on 2 rooms. Have a car booked thru National Emerald Club - 380 for the week.
Have no clue where to begin. Now have to figure out what to do. Asking for suggestions for 4 first timers (all adults) to Hawaii. Best Luau, restaurants, snorkeling for beginners, entertainment, things to do and attractions.

For those interested instead of flying from Michigan to Mauii we are flying to San Fran to pick up my son and the next day flying out of Oakland, Saves $660 per ticket than flying from Detroit.

Congratulations! You did it! Aloha mai kakou!

Ok somethings to look at as thing you may want to do in Maui.
First and foremost check out Viator Maui...www.viator.com/maui-tours. You will find things thru them on what to do as first timers to Maui.
As someone who lives here in Hawai'i I usually suggest these things to do for friends who come over from the continent - just google them and you'll be able to find info:
* Sunrise at Haleakala
* Road to Hana
* Visit to Ulupakakua Ranch
* Snorkel Tour to Molokini
* Maui Ocean Center Aquarium
* Ulalena -Maui Theatre Dinner and Show
* Old Lahaina Lu'au
* Visit to Iao Valley and a Walk around Lahaina town- Hawai'i's former capital city.
* Ali'i Kula Lavendar farm up in Kula

Suggestions on restaurants and eateries depends on what you want to do. I would suggest you go to youtube.com and check out the Maui/Hawai'i programs of Diners and Dives...or any Foodie show that features Maui. They'll give you interesting options to check out. When in doubt and if you want the local flair just make friends w/the local people and go find out where they go...you can't go wrong.

Have lots of fun, don't be afraid to explore and "talk story" w/the local folk...you'll be pleasantly surprised on what you'll find out.

Aloha no, Reno

I've been to luaus on all the islands and think this is the BEST http://www.teaumoana.com/. for surfing lessons, we used Maui Beachboys and thought they were really good.http://www.mauibeachboys.com/ my kids 14 and 17 took a stand up paddleboard lessons that turned into a second surfing lessons, they had a ball. class sizes small, and teachers enjoy what they do. plenty of places to eat at Laihaina and great walking town and souvenir shopping. enjoy!

There are plenty of places to snorkel if you like that - and if you haven't done it yet - suggest you practice in a pool where you live to get more comfortable with your face in the water - breathing thru a tube.

Wailea/South Kiehi have plenty of things to do as noted - and it's about an hour drive (except during "rush" hour) up to Lahaina, or to Up Country, etc.

If you are going to drive to Hana - with the 600 curves on the road - which is a beautiful drive/experience, you might consider staying overnight there.

Uno mas - as for snorkeling - be sure to check the local conditions/ask around before you head off a beach if you are doing it yourselves. Never know when the undertow might be strong.

Taking a guided tour might be the best intro - and then go from there.
