Spain - 2 weeks w/ 4 boys ages 10, 14, 16, 16
We are planning a trip in June and I would love some itinerary advice! Thinking of flying into Madrid stay 3-4 days (maybe side trip 1 day to Segovia), would then like to go to Barcelona for 3-4 days. I would like to try some other towns the kids would like, maybe a beach resort to kick back and relax a few days after all the traveling or in between the 2 cities? Any suggestions would be appreciated, Thanks!

Spain is full of history and world heritage sites, but not knowing what the children are interested in makes it difficult to point you in the right direction.
There are a number of beach areas outside of Barcelona, but where you go will depend on your budget.

Get a guide book or two including the Eyewitness guides, they have a lot of excellent pictures and let them participate in the planning of the trip. There is a beach in Barcelona and then there are a few by train.

kathy, I think including Barcelona is a good choice for your family. We spent 10 days there in May (traveling as a couple) and got to the beach a couple of our days, easy to do using the bus near our apartment close to Placa Catalunya. Sitges, just south of Barcelona is known for its beaches and can be reached from Barcelona in about 40 minutes by train. Rick Steves has travel books that are good for first time visitors to Spain with lots of information about both Madrid and Barcelona. Have a great trip, Deborah

Agree, it would help to know the the boys interests. Probably castles and you could stay in a few.

Thanks for all the input. I have just checked out Maribelsguides.com It's a great resource! The boys are fairly good travelers, however movement is key. As long as we take breaks (not meaning sitting at a cafe) in between museum's and historical sights they are usually very interested. I will definitely have them involved in some of the planning. Love the idea of staying in a castle!
