We are planning a drive from Broome to Perth in June. Which rental companies allow this one way trip and which is likely to have the best deal? Do any of them have unlimited milage? And finally what might be a good number of days to allow to see the sights make some detours but not dawdle? Would six days do it?

I'm not sure which companies offer this service (if any), but you'll find that one one way fees in WA are exorbitant.

It's a ~2,300 km drive! We took 17 days to drive from Perth to Exmouth and back, stopping at the sights along the way, and we were thoroughly exhausted. I have a trip report here that might give you some ideas what to see/do between Perth-Exmouth. Can't help with Broome, we decided if we ever make it to Broome, it'll be via plane.

Costs aside, this doesn’t seem workable at all. I’ve done a caravan trip Perth to Coral Bay and back, in about 16 days, and that was pushing it. There was a lot of driving through vast landscapes with infrequent roadhouses, and the ocean and any sign of human habitation were nowhere in view most of the time. Broome is much further (about twice the distance?) and I would guess even less to see on the way. Not surprising that drop off fees are exorbitant: once you get a vehicle to Perth, who in their right mind would want to drive it back to Broome?

I really did enjoy our road trip to Coral Bay and a later trip by air to Broome, but WA is mostly a vast and lovely wilderness and you will only be able to explore a tiny fraction of it in 7 days. What is the appeal of the destinations you have chosen? Fly there, or find something comparable closer to Perth.

So, it's not tough to find car rental companies offering one-way rentals. Hertz is one.
But to say, you also require unlimited km would be asking for more.
Besides, one way car rentals are relatively more expensive.

As far as a trip down to Perth from Broome, you'll be pushing it to be able to complete it in 6days.

A good idea is to fly down to Perth, which may be a bit light on your pocket as well.

See if you can find a relocation. Google One way car rentals - there are a couple, can't remember the names just now. They often offer very low rates on motor homes & vehicles they need to move.

Thank you everybody. It does sound as though we've come up with a not very workable plan. The people at Outback Spirit Tours who we are doing a tour with from Broome said that a week would be OK and there's lots to see, but what I'm hearing from all of you is what we were thinking might be the case.
As we are flying from the USA we wanted to take a week or two to see more of WA and originally intended to travel around Margaret River and the southern end of the State, but our guide book tells us that Perth the South will be cold and rainy in May and June which doesn't sound much fun. Does anyone have any experience of that area at that time of year?

I'm an American living in WA, and believe me, May and June are hardly cold and rainy. Yes, we get more rain than at other times of year, but it's all relative, as WA doesn't get much rain...period. I'm from CO and I adore May and the winter months in WA - we personally prefer to travel within WA from May-Oct as the weather is fine (by our standards), yet the Aussies think they're cold, so accommodation is less expensive and there are some good deals to be had. May is my absolute favorite month to be in WA. Beautiful coolish days and that fabulous WA blue sky. Do not hesitate. MR and the SW can be lovely that time of year.
