Fun restaurants in New Orleans

I am traveling to New Orleans in September for 5 days for a conference. I am staying at the Hyatt and would like to go to some fun, casual restaurants while I am there. I am traveling alone so I don't want romance, just some places for fun and good food. Any suggestions?

I don't know about fun, but good food: Commander's Palace, Maurepas Food, Boucherie, The Praline Connection. But all of them are outside the French Quarter. Two of them readily accessible via the St. Charles streetcar. All of them can be checked out on the web.

For a fun casual restaurant, good cajun food, try Cochon http://www.cochonrestaurant.com/ we had a blast there. Also k-Pauls was absolutely delicious and very reasonable

Acme Oyster Hiuse. You can sit at the bar and eat some outstanding oysters while watching the workers shuck them. Very casual.

Thank you all so much! It's been a dream of mine for 40 years to go to New Orleans. I guess now it's more like a bucket list thing LOL.

I'm trying to think what you mean by "fun restaurants". Great food abounds. I LOVE the above mentioned Cochon. But I'm not sure how it is "fun" unless you just mean it's fun to eat really good food. Or are you looking for entertainment or music with the meal, some sort of theme that makes it more fun, or something else?

I've traveled to NOLA many times on business and a few times for leisure. If I were there for 5 days, here are the places I'd go -

#1 - Café du Monde for beignets
#2 - Drago's for charbroiled oysters
http://www.dragosrestaurant.com/
#3 - Remoulade for shrimp (and more)
http://www.remoulade.com/
#4 - Cooter Brown's for po'boys - take the streetcar
http://m.mainstreethub.com/cooterbrowns
#5 - Sucre for macarons, gelato and/or dessert
http://www.shopsucre.com/
#6 - La Divina Italian café -a new casual find for breakfast, sandwiches or gelato
http://ladivinagelateria.com/?page_id=191
#7 - take a cab to Paschal's Manale for their amazing barbeque shrimp (not what you think it is). I have them pull the heads before serving, although they don't like to do it

If you can get away for this 2pm tour, I HIGHLY recommend it -

As was stated above, eating at the bar at the Acme Oyster House! And not food, but just having cocktails at the Carousel Bar in the Monteleone Hotel.

Mother's for a Ferdi's Special with debris! Love the attitude from the servers. As s single you can share a table easily.

We always hit Emeril's other resto, NOLA, too. Good vibe Good food.

Take a taxi over to Port o' Call. Still one of thee best cheeseburgers 'evah. Yeah...I know...cheeseburger in New Orleans?

Muriel's is also nice. Very nice bar too.
Stanley (Sister resto to Stella!) is also funky cool with good grub and you can watch some goings on at Jax Sq.

We like Drago's for oysters and Stanley for breakfast. Lots of others of course, but those two and Cafe du Monde are the places we go every time.

Napoleon House is always good too And while The Praline Connections sometimes gets mixed reviews for service, I have always been treated very well there and the food is great.

If you go to Drago's at the Hilton for chargrilled oysters, sit at the bar and watch them cooking!
