TravelPro or Samsonite? Need new luggage fast!
Zipper finally gave out on my luggage (Samsonite) and I'm shopping for new for a trip to Kauai for two weeks. I've narrowed it down to TravelPro T-Pro Bold or Samsonite Hyperspace. The main goal is to have something durable, identifiable (both come in good colors) at baggage claim, and easy to use. I do tend to overpack/stuff. Prices are similar for two pieces (22" and 26"). The Samsonite has spinner wheels, the TravelPro has conventional wheels. I like the looks of the latter slightly better, perhaps, but am seeing a lot of travelers with spinner wheels now. Experience with either brand? Or other brands?

I have converted to spinner wheels on my carry but noticed this last trip that I still have a tendency to pull the bags on two wheels. It is nice on the plane going down the aisles with spinner wheels but have to say on the train one day my spinner bag took off and I had to chase it down the train car, early morning and only one guy on the train so wasn't real embarrassing. I had a travel pro for years until the zipper went on it. My friend bought samsonite for a trip this year and the zipper broke first day. It was Marshalls so they gave her a store credit but was suprised.

I travel all the time and have had almost all known brands of luggage. The most durable luggage I've found is the Costco brand - Kirkland ($99 for the standard size). I travel over 100,000 miles per year and it lasts better than anything I've ever used previously, including brands that cost 5X as much.

I've been happy with my TravelPro 20", but I admit part of the attraction was watching flight crews board planes. So many had the distinctive TravelPro insignia. But who knows - maybe they are comped?

I have been a flight attendant for 40 years and the Travelpro has been my constant companion for at least 35 of those years! I use the 22 inch expandable as I like putting my clothes in the "3 suiter" top section and having the rest to put my treasures. It has two front pockets and a back pocket which will hold newspapers,my 3 oz bag, etc. for easy use.
I have a spinner bag from Lipault that I like but it is a real pain not being able to put my heavy purse or another tote bag on as it will not support it. It also seems to be a pain at times to pull/push.
And just to clarify-we have to buy our own luggage and it is not comped! The way I beat my Travelpro with commuting to work and flying international every week-I get about 2-3 years out of one before I think that I should get a new one.

Have you considered having the zipper replaced? I've had new zippers put in a few times - saves a bundle over buying new luggage, assuming you have enough time to do it and a good repair place at hand.

Thank you! I just purchased the TravelPro. Found it on Amazon at the best price and prime shipping is free. Agree, I always think the airline crews look so glam with their luggage. Melnq8, the bag is over 10 years old and beat to death or I'd try replacing the zipper. But good to know that it does work to do that--I always assume it would never work as well.
Thanks again for your good advice-I'll toast you on my next trip with my new luggage.
