I'm a big Starwood fan so I booked the St. Regis for our 5-day tour in Singapore for Dec 27-31. I will be travelling with 2 seniors of 80+ years old with high mobility. With the new Westin close to the Marina that opens in November, is it wise to switch the hotels so we can be closer to the Marina rather than the Botanical Garden? Is the new Westin more accessible than the St. Regis?

I do not know either, but st Regis is almost always a superior hotel

Yes, St. Regis is always good, especially those in Europe. The Singapore St. Regis is a bit out of the way from the downtown bustle.

The St Regis is at the end of Orchard Road - still walking distance to one of the main shopping belts. The new Westin will be in the new downtown area which is a good 20 - 30 minute walk to Marina Centre( but very scenic and iconic around Marina Bay ). Now Singapore is small and public transport is excellent and it is safe to walk anywhere at anytime. I agree with Allan109, St Regis would be better - about 15 minute walk to the Botanical Gardens ( make sure you go to Gardens by the Bay which is also amazing ) and about 5 minutes from the start/end of Orchard Road. Keep cool and casual, no need for sweaters but wear good shoes for walking, wear a hat and the hotel should loan you an umbrella if you need one - especially for the older folks - hydrate well. Enjoy this wonderful city.

Oh yes, the ST Regis has a fleet of Green Bentleys for airport pickup I think.

Greetings wismergirl from a soon to be concluded Seoul business trip and congratulations on future holiday stay in our fine home of Singapore; special part of the world.

Can't help you with personal 'overnight' impressions of either property. (Before procuring a family residence in SIN, the Four Seasons was my main SIN business travel hotel; my review of her on my profile page stands; special place.) Have dined at the SIN St. Regis on a few occasions and experienced her public areas; no complaints.

[Immediate disclosure: have stayed at the St. Regis and Westin Grande properties in Bangkok for work. No comparison: St. Regis, hands down. (Though remain partial to the BKK St. Regis' business travel neighbour, the Four Seasons.)]

You'll be arriving shortly after the Westin opens and our experience even with luxury hotels is that there are often hiccups with new properties that may take anywhere from a few weeks to months to fully iron out. So the St. Regis seems like a safer bet.

FWIW, we are planning a 10 day trip to Singapore and are debating whether to split our time between the Grand Hyatt and the Mandarin Oriental -- where I stayed in March of this year and absolutely loved -- or simply spend all our time at the MO.

Thanks for all your advice! I have heard that SIN St. Regis is below par for the service it provides, so I'm a bit hesitant to stay there. I'll continue to shop around based on everyone's recommendation.
