Booking during Christmas,

We are having a hard time finding accomodation for koh Chang during Christmas. We are 3 families (2 adults 2 children) and we planned to go to Koh Chang from the 20 -26 december, but everything is full, we tried agoda.com, hostels.com, and even a travel agent but no luck.
But is it possible that we might be able to book if we just turn up on Koh Chang? And are there still places that isn't on the internet, where you just turn up?
Actually we are not that desperate, but our friends are really worried, that we need to stay on the beach during christmas!

I would not risk just showing up. You are travelling during the busiest season. Hotels book up quickly. Many repeat customers.

If you really wanted to stay on the beach at Christmas, you needed to have booked months ago. I would not show up and hope to find a place to stay. You might need to re-think where you want to go in Thailand.

With that many people I would not just show up. Have you contacted some of the hotels directly? Some times they have cancelations or hold back rooms. It is worth a phone call or email.

It depends what sort of place you are looking for. 4-5* hotels would have been booked months ago. Smaller, cheaper places will probably still have either full of partial availability. A quick look on wwww.hostelworld.com and I found several places with rooms but you probably won't get 3 rooms in the same place and so may have to split up. Koh Chang hotels tend to be concentrated in two main areas and are quite close together so that may not be too much of a problem. Of course there are places not yet having a web presence but these will be at the lower end and, on balance, I think it would be a very high risk strategy just to turn up, especially with children.

It largely depends on what sort of place you are looking for but I would start searching in earnest now for alternative locations. www.travelfish.org is good for finding some of the lesser known islands.

Koh Chang is very busy as elsewhere in Thailand , no ways should you think of just arriving without accommodation in particular with children, you can try also http://www.beachsiam.com/koh_chang.html or you can also see what places are available on http://www.asiaoz.com/compare-rates.html that also has Sawadee there too

Do not risk it! Book! - Christmas is rammed and New Year sen more so as it is very popular with Thai people who get a major break at New Year. I had people staying on my floor a few years back - because there was nowhere for them to stay.

Whitesands - on the corner of the busiest place on the island. But it does dominate the best beach.
You won't be far from the madding crowd.
