Is Cesky Krumlov worth overnight trip fro Prague
Me and my husband in our early 30's traveling to europe and we will be going from Berlin to Prague to Copenhagen. Do you think its worth to add a day trip to Cesky Krumlov? Do you think its worth to do an over night in Cesky Krumlov? I read alot about it wasnt sure if it was too similar to prague that we should just stay longer in prague and berlin without day trip then.
Here are our options
1.
Berlin 5 nights 4 days
Prague 4 nights and days
2.
Berlin 4 nights 3 days
Prague 4 nights 3 days
Cesky Krumlov 1 night/day
greatly appreciate your advise.

It isn't like Prague at all, Prague is a big city, this is a small village. Except both are Czech, of course.
I enjoyed it on a day trip but wouldn't go out of my way to plan an overnight there. There isn't really much to do there, it is very small. Seems like a lot of trouble to me your 2nd itinerary just for that (having to check out of your hotel, check into a new one, and then check out the next day to go to where?), If that's the end of your trip, where do you plan to go from there? Copenhagen? How would you intend to do that from Cesky krumlov, anyway, seems impossible. And it would take you a while to get from there to anywhere you could fly to Copenhagen from.

My husband and I stayed overnight in CK and it was lovely. As night set, the day-trippers left and it was like we had the town to ourselves to wander. We stopped the night on our way from Prague to Vienna. I guess it would take you out of the way a bit to get from there to Copenhagen. But answer your question, its very different from Prague and was one of the highlights of our trip.

That's about when the day trip bus tour I was on got back in Prague, around 7 pm, as I recall. I think we left CK around 4:30 pm. It's about 100 miles or 160 km away. I'll admit I had no particular desire to stay there longer than a day, either, I never thought, gee, I wish I had stayed overnight here.

I stayed 1.5 days in CK but I had a car and also went to a local monastery. It's a cute town but not worth the trip from Prague and not worth cutting short Berlin and Prague. I visited CK because I was doing a circuit of southern Czech Republic and it was on my route.
Option 1 gets my vote.

I used Cesky Krumlov as a base to explore Southern Bohemia (with a car) and stayed there for three nights. It was pretty dead at night (mid-September), though at least there weren't as many tourists. There are night walking tours, and I went on one which attracted only a few people, but there were several big groups walking around/touring even in the evening. Other than those groups, you'd hardly know the town was open - whereas in Prague the restaurants were mobbed and bustling in the evening.
I kind of wish I'd stayed somewhere else at least for a night or two instead of in Cesky Krumlov. One night would have been plenty. I wouldn't have minded skipping even that one night.

Ditto adrienne and Andrew. I think time of year might make a difference too. We visited late July this past summer and it was packed. I might have enjoyed it more if it had been less busy. We also stayed in Telc and liked it better (but had a car).
Have a great trip!

I loved Telc. I dream about going back.
I went to CK in May and it was dead in the evening as well. I don't think the small towns get lively until the height of the summer.

We loved cesky krumlov. It is a unesco site and was a real surprise to us. While quieter, we enjoyed one evening there. Unfortunately, we arrived on a Monday, only to discover that the castle there was closed that day so if you go, chck ahead of time. We took the train there and remember that we had difficulty finding a train out to our next destination which was Vienna. Aa day tour, while long, might not. E a bad idea. The atmosphere is completely different from prague's

If you decide on a day trip, which I would recommend, a good company to use for transportation is
www.mike-chauffeur.cz/ Quite a few Fodorites have recommended him along with Rick Steves.
(Sorry, I like Rick )
