England Car Rental Over Age 70

Can you rent a car in England if you are 70? I've heard you cannot. Does anyone know for sure. Have Googled it but get different answers.

Call Autoeurope. As brokers they should be able to give you a straight answer. Or go to www.autoeurope.com and plug in a rental and see what happens when you specify the age of the driver.

There isn't any law about it, it is a rule set by each individual company as to whom they want to rent to in that regard, and what age limits they have. So you have to check the policies of the companies you want to rent from, the specific location. It's a big difference if you are 78 vs. 72, also, as some companies restrict at age 74 or 75, I believe.

Last time I rented in the UK I was 75, but I had to scramble around to find a willing company. I'm 82 now, and I wouldn't rent to me. I drive perfectly well, mind you, if you don't ask my Wife.

Sure you can -- stick w/ the majors (Hertz, etc, and autoeurope.com ). But just how much 'over 70' are you?

I just checked Hertz, and they don't have an age limit for those over 70.

I don't think National does either, and most Avis outlets don't in the UK, from what I've read.

Thanks to all who wrote. Planning a trip next year when we both turn 70 and would hate to rely entirely on public transportation!
