Macedonia worth visiting?

i will like to go to Macedonia from Greece if possible, but do not know is this country is worth a visit. I saw pictures of Ohrid and it looks similar to Dubrovnik. Since I have been to Duubrovnik is this country worth visintg? Is there scenery or beautiful countryside? Any help will be great

I'm interested in the responses you get, as Macedonia is on my to-go list.

If you click on the box above 'View by Country' and then Macedonia, you'll find quite a few previous posts about Macedonia, along with some trip reports.

Several years ago there was a very good one by a poster called Ure-O-Sceptic but that seems to have disappeared. He certainly made it sound an interesting place to visit!

Lake Ohrid, the second-deepest lake in the world (after Lake Baikal in Russia), is quite beautiful. Even if you think the town looks like Dubrovnik, the setting is quite different. And because the lake is getting polluted, you might want to visit before the ecology changes.

I don't know how much the over-all scenery looks like northern Greece, as I have not been there.

We just passed through Skopje, but it looked interesting as well.

Neighboring Albania has quite dramatic mountainous terrain. It was an unexpected delight.

Lake Ohrid is possibly the oldest lake in Europe with over 200 endemic species. It is naturally 98% clean and fed by several natural springs one of which is called Black Drim. If you like some adventure you should go. Look on YouTube for Lake Ohrid and there are also some videos from CNN's Nik Robertson on the country. I have been there about 6 times.

I wouldn't say that Ohrid is much like Dubrovnik (and if you go at the right time of year it will be a LOT less crowded) but I enjoyed Macedonia more than I expected and would be happy to go back.

For my TR with photos start here: http://mytimetotravel.wordpress.com/...sed-by-skopje/

I'm Macedonian native. The city of Ohrid is worth to visit, and Bitola and Skopie too. If you have time, when in Greece, visit some of the islands in the Ionian sea!

I want to add that Macedona is very cheap country! You can eat, drink, go shopping without spend a lot of money!!! Macedonia has a lot of beautiful places of untouched nature, but they are hidden, because the tourism is not developed in this areas...

Hi, I am also interested in making a visit to Macedonia, as I find it really beautiful. Hows the transportation there? Specially to the country sides and remote places?

There are buses and shared taxis. Consult rome2rio for names of bus companies on specific routes and then check the bus companies. Get a good guidebook.
