Dog-friendly condo in Aruba?

My SIL wants to bring her small very well-behaved dog on a family vacation. She's stayed at The Westin before, but it's in the process of being sold.

The rest of us will be at The Radisson. The only other hotel that's pet friendly is Amsterdam Manor, but my 85-year-old MIL would like her to be closer.

Would love to hear suggestions for condos? Other places we may not have thought of?

I have tried every hotel on Palm Beach!

Thanks so much!!

Are you aware of all the particulars in bringing the dog back into the U.S? I know we have a Timeshare in Aruba and at Divi Links and they told me if I had to bring my dog there was a great kennel close by. (I was not interested in doing this.)

If you can get no responses here I would try aruba.com that is forum strictly for Aruba. They might be able to help you with info.

Islands have such a huge problem with stray dogs these days (hard to enforce dog owners to keep their dogs on leashes) that it's getting harder and harder to bring dogs on vacation with you.

Make sure you find out all the policies when you find a place that will accept it, and do everything right!

Because of tougher policies bringing them in and back to States, many places just don't allow them anymore.

Sorry I couldn't help, but if you find a place will you let us know?

PS airlines are making it tougher to bring too! Make sure the airlines allow it too and what restrictions are

Thanks so much for the replies. She has brought the dog back and forth to Aruba ( and once to Turks) many times. She won't put it in a kennel.

I can't blame hotels/condos for not wanting to accept dogs ( and I say this as an obsessed dog owner!)but I am just trying to make this vacation work for my MIL's sake!

Why can't she stay at the Westin again? The Westin has been for sale now for over a year but it's still currently a Westin.

The Westin has a letter of intent. According to the management office, the hotel could change owners at any time ( even though it's heading into high season?!) and the pet-friendly policy could change.

The only ones I know for sure are: Westin, Bucuti, Amsterdam Manor, and the Boardwalk (Boardwalk is just north of the Marriott.)

ArubaAmy,

Yes, I've tried them all! SIL wants to stay on Palm Beach, since we will all be at The Radisson. I am not familiar with Boardwalk. Is that the Boardwalk Boutique Hotel? Do you know anything about it? Thanks so much!

It's a cute, small hotel and gets good reviews on Trip Advisor. Have been there a couple of times to visit friends and would consider staying there if I didn't already have a favorite hotel that we stay at every year.

If she wants to stay on Palm Beach then she'd have to go with the Westin - period.

Thanks so much, ArubaAmy. The hotel looks lovely! I may check it out next time for me and my husband. SIL really wants to stay at The Westin, but management there says its unclear whether pets would be welcome with the new owner(s) and whether the hotel will stay open through the winter.

Our favorite hotel is Amsterdam Manor. We've stayed at a few others over the years when we first start going to Aruba but we've now been staying at Amsterdam Manor since 2004.

So interesting to hear. Is it a hassle to cross the road to the beach? That's the main reason why SIL and MIL didn't want to stay there. MIL is 85, but the property looked very nice online.

Not a hassle at all. It's a narrow road with a crosswalk, cars stop for you (when there are cars), and it takes just a few steps to cross. I timed it once from my room to my chair under my palapa - took less than 2 minutes. LOL! I don't even think twice about it. Love the rooms and the staff there - and they have a great beach and beach bar (never any issues getting a palapa.)

I don't know what you have decided, but we have chosen the Amsterdam Manor for our Christmas and New Year's holiday. My father is disabled and stubbornly refuses to use a wheelchair. He is thoroughly convinced that it will be a shorter walk from our room to the beach at the Amsterdam Manor than it was from his room in the Curacao tower at the Radisson to the beach.

ArubaLisa,

Husband and I are staying at The Radisson. Everybody else is keeping their fingers crossed for The Westin, but management there is still saying the hotel could be sold within a few weeks and may change its pet-friendly policy.
