Car Rental in Vienna
I am planning on renting a car in Vienna for 9 days and in the meantime, we want to travel to Prague. Will we be able to drive the car between the 2 countries? Also how are the prices for gas and diesel? Thanks all!

www.autoeurope.com should be able to tell you if your rental can be taken to the Czech Republic.

Hi Sedda,
there may be a difference depending on whether you want to drive the car in the Czech republic and return it in Vienna, or do a one-way car hire, picking up in Vienna and returning in Prague.
the latter is likely to attract a one-way supplement as well as the extra insurance premium that taking it into the Czech republic will require.
either way, you must tell the hire company what you want to do in advance.

A car IN Vienna is a nonsense. It makes sense only if you are touring the countryside.
You can often take cars from Austria to Czech Republic - but it depends on the agency and perhaps also on the car (some higher end models have more restrictions). You would have to check details with agencies.

Hi Sedda, I live in Vienna and have a car (which I often think is nonsense) and would strongly discourage you from driving in Vienna. Parking is expensive, parking rules are tricky, and the presence of trams can be disorienting. Public transportation is clean, efficient, reasonable, and safe.
Driving in both Austria and the Czech Republic requires a vignette, which some rental companies provide but others do not. Right now diesel is averaging €1.40 per liter, or about $7.50 per gallon.

Only on certain roads. I drove from the German border to Vienna and from Vienna to the Italian border without the vignette; but it was not always easy.
