Train tickets - should I book now or wait till I get there
Hi,
I am visiting Sierre for 8 days in October and I want to take day trips to Lausanne, Milan, etc. during my stay.
Is it advisable to book tickets in advance from www.sbb.ch or should I wait till I get there and purchase over the counter? Will the prices rise?
Thanks,
C

For Milan, you might get a discount booking in advance (at least 2 weeks). There is a supersaver fare (as little as 28chf depending on availability) for the EC train, but would only be for Visp/Milan or Brig/Milan. The EC (a faster train) doesn't stop in Sierre.

You might be able to get a similar discount for Visp/Lausanne on the Milan/Geneva EC train.

You can get local service from Sierre to Visp or Brig and take advantage of any discounts from thereon to Milan.
Again, buy the tickets ahead and you can PRINT THEM OUT at home; they are good for a couple months and you can charge them to your credit card and be done with it.
