Croatia Itinerary
Hi.. we will only be in Croatia for eight days. Our flights depart and leave from Split. Right now, I have booked two days in Split and one night in Mostar. I have been to Dubrovnik back in the '70's and don't feel the need to return. So I wanted to concentrate on some areas around Split and North. What would you suggest? I thought about Zadar and making day trips from there, but maybe we should explore and stay overnight in other areas. We will have a car. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Plitvice Lakes National Park, a few hours from Split, is amazing (huge turquoise-colored lakes full of trout, with dozens of waterfalls). By car it's easy to get to from Split. Although you could see the park as a long day trip, staying the night is best - arrive the night before and see the park first thing the morning, before the mobs of tour groups arrive. (I assume you're going in season and not in January.)

you're right. I need a good guidebook. Right now my trip is a little weird. We land in Split and spend two nights there and then go on to Mostar, and then from there I want to go back North of Split. Should I land in Split, get the car and then go to Mostar right away and then backtrack to Split and then to Zadar? I really want to go to Mostar but it's out of the way. Since we are only there 7 nights/8 days- does it make the most sense to do day trips out of Zadar and/or Split?

It depends on what you want to see and experience. I liked Split a lot and I liked it better than Zadar, but many people don't like Split. Andrew is right about Plitvice Lakes -- well worth seeing.
