Amsterdam - so much we want to do - so little time
We will arrive in Amsterdam at 7pm on Thursday after a long flight. We will have all day Friday and most of Saturday. Sights on our want to do list:
Anne Frank Museum
Dutch Resistance Museum
Rijks Museum
Our lord in the Attic
Cheese & Wine Tasting
Canal Tour
Please help us - your thoughts.

Start by getting hotel in the general area of the Museumplein.
Take the trams down to the Centraal Station and get a boat for touring the canals. It will go by the Anne Frank Museum, so you can get an idea where it is.
If you go to the Rijsmuseum, I would suggest you take in the Van Gogh Museum almost next door. I arrive early, take the elevator to the top and walk down. Most folks start at the bottom and walk up.
Nearby is the Sama Sebo restaurant, a great place to try a rijstaffel (rice table). meal.http://www.samasebo.com/en/
I like the Owl Hotel, for its location and its price.

You CAN do all of this with less than 2 full days but it requires some pre-planning and legwork.
Make a Google map and "pin" each of the places you plan to visit (including where you plan to get on a canal tour). Also have a tram map handy for this planning. Then, plan the most efficient route to all the things you want. Also figure out how long each will take - both tourist sites and meals (including getting there, waiting in lines, etc.)
After you've created the map, draw lines and see if there's a place where they all intersect - that might be a good area to look for a hotel and allow you to walk everywhere.
Alternately, draw the tram line routes on your map with colored markers (the stops themselves will already be on the Google map) - this may also suggest locations/neighborhoods to consider for your hotel.
With so little time, do NOT use a canal tour for "getting around" (though do take one) there are much quicker ways for getting around.

The only outlier is the Resistance museum, then again, you'll be near the jewish historical museum, maybe that in stead of the Anne Frank house? And Rembrandt's house is nearby on Jodenbreestraat. From there it's not too long a walk to Our Lord in the Attic.

Regarding Anne Frank, I suggest to anyone who thinks the Anne Frank house is a must see to go to the Jewish Historical Museum to see the work of Charlotte Salomon there, Life? or Theatre? It's a unique collection and a unique testimony to her life and work. I used to be acquainted with her stepmother, Paulinka in "Life? or Theatre?" and it always seemed very strange to me, such a link with Salomon's life.

To me, but it's a personal opinion, I know, the AF house is something completely ambivalent, regarding the Dutch attitude towards Jews, both during the war and after.
