Location, location, location...

Long time travellers (in our early 60s) used to Playa del Carmen, will be trying out Puerto Vallarta this coming Feb. for 2 months. Which part of town would you suggest we rent a condo and why ! We enjoy dancing, love restaurants and long walks, but most of all would appreciate a quiet neighborhood, especially at night !!!
Your comments and experiences would be most welcomed.

I love Puerto Vallarta, but it is one very busy town. Quiet neighborhood at night is a bit tricky to come by.

As far as parts of town, do you have a map yet? There's the airport, then The Marina, north Hotel Zone, south Hotel Zone, downtown/Centro, (the Rio Cuale), south-side/Zona Romantica that are all parts of PV with hotels and condos available.

I personally like south of the Rio Cuale (a river that cuts thru downtown) and stay around the Olas Altas area near Playa Los Muertos (the main downtown public beach).

Look at www.vallarta-getaways.com under Unique Old Town Rentals. This is the agency I use for apartments and will give you an idea of what's available.

We're heading to Puerto Vallarta in October. After hours on VRBO and similar sites, we decided on Selva Romantica. A few blocks up the hill from the beach.

I've read that some units can be noisy on occasion, but, I doubt it will bother us. Our last trip to New Orleans we stayed in a unit that fronted Bourbon Street, we slept well.

This is only our second trip to PV. I don't think I'd want to stay anywhere besides the South side or Centro. Easy walking to beaches, bars and a myriad of restaurant choices.

Selva Romantica is a REALLY nice building, great choice JeanH. It's very near where I rent my apartment these days. I wouldn't worry so much about noise, but it IS in a area at the TOP of a hill so there's quite a bit of walking steep sidewalks, various staircases, hills, to get around.

We stayed at Casa Andrea for part of our only other trip to PV. Yes, the hill is steep....I remember walking further up and admiring the outside of Selva Romantica.

I'm excited. We've never stayed so long at a place we know relatively little about.

You have good taste Casa Andrea's is a nice place too, I've stayed there a few times myself. I'm guessing you will love Selva Romantica and being in an apartment in that area. I rented for the first time 2 trips ago in a similar building a few blocks from SR, and I doubt I'll ever go back to hotels! In fact I just booked the same unit again for 10 days in Nov.

Hopefully we've convinced Rohelio to give it a try.

OH Boy... you got that right Suze. I have been doing quite a bit of reading and searching in the Zona Romantica area. Firstly, thanks for your insight and comments on accomodations. Please let me know if I can apply the same tactic in PV as I have done in PDC. I would rent a hotel for 1 or 2 nites and would then wonder around certain sections of town looking for SE RENTA signs and would apply within. We always found something appealing and reasonably priced. Do you think I could apply this method in PV.
Thanks again Suze.

Sure, if you want to spend your time that way and put in the footwork. Why not? Absolutely you'd find something. Whether it would be better than what you can arrange online, in advance, that I'm less certain about. If you're going to go "local" how's your Spanish?

Also do realize that lots of condos/apartment don't have visible signs, they're thru a property management company, and you'd only find them by looking online or going to their rental office. The great places from Vallarta Getaways, for example, I don't think any of the buildings have signage that they would indicate they are rentals from the street.
