Hello to all ~ need your guidance and recommendation for hotel lodging in Rome. There will be 2 of us travelling to Rome on October 23 from Los Angeles with a check in date of October 24th. We will be staying for 5 nights. Pretty much want to stay around Via Veneto and Termini. We plan to take some day trips so that would make it convenient to the train station. However, not oppose to staying elsewhere if the accommodations are good. My requirements are decent size room, not sabby, the more modern the better, cable TV (yes - after those long days of walking), decent size bathroom. Don't care if breakfast involved or WiFi. Our budget -- yup here it is -- our budget is $150 U. D. Dollar (please don't yell). Anyone have a recommendation? Some of the hotel booking sites I've seen and reviews I've read through TripAdvisor and such, make me cringe at what is being offered out there.

As stated above, your budget would not include Via Veneto accommodations so Termini is your only option.

I've stayed at Hotel Kennedy - it fits your budget and is close to Termini, about 3 or 4 short blocks so you can walk in a few minutes. They have sat TV (I guess that's the same as cable - I think it's British English for cable). Ethernet cable for internet. The staff is pleasant and helpful and the rooms are fairly new and renovated and a good size. The bathrooms are various sizes so ask for a larger bathroom and shower (or tub which will get you a bigger shower) via email when you book. The rooms are not modern, they have a traditional decor. I do not know what sabby is (probably some new age term I'm unfamiliar with but you can ask the hotel).

Agree that is a modest budget for such a central location - esp if you want a large room and cable in English (most hotels offer limited English channels - usually BBC news and a sports channel).

As already mentioned, $150 won't get you much in Rome--certainly not with all your requirements . We just got back and stayed at the Hotel Aberdeen which is within a few blocks of the Termini Station. The room and bathroom were an adequate size (don't expect large rooms for your budget) and the TV had some news stations in English, but it wasn't cable TV. The best things about this hotel were: 1) comfortable, 2) clean, 3) quiet, 4) price and 5) amazing front desk staff. We paid 100 euros ($130) per night. (Look for their Rick Steves internet special.)

Thank you for all of your responses. I think I like the idea of possibly renting an apartment. I am not opposed to staying in a neighborhood area that has good access to the City center. As such, can someone recommend a company or site they've used to rent an apartment? I am currently looking at Lux Apartamenti near Porta Maggiore. Too far?

Not very central. And they say "some" apartments have a bedroom, living room, etc. I'm sure those are the 5 person apts at the higher cost. The lower price is probably a studio. I very much don't like that the web sites seems to be very deceptive about this.

I would ask a lot more info - including the exact size of the studio and what furniture is provided in addition to a bed - or if there is only a pull-out sofa and no real bed.

Note that the check-out time for Lux Appartamenti is 10:00a. If you fly out in the afternoon or hoped to stay in Rome for a while before moving on to your next destination, you'll be stuck with your luggage. If you stay in a hotel, they should be willing to hold your luggage for you after check-out until later in the day, or you could check the luggage at the Termini station for a charge.

These apartments are above your stated budget. If the budget is becoming flexible, let us know because there may be more suggestions/recommendations.
