Irish Towns and Cities To Stay In

I'm still working out the details for sights and the what not.

I would like an opinion or two of the towns I'll be staying in in late July. All places are one night unless otherwise indicated. I already have B&B or Hotels booked.

Belfast - 2 nights (early afternoon arrival)
Larne N.I.
Sligo - but considering Eniskillen N.I. (after a visit to Bushmills)
Galway
Ennis
Ventry, Dingle Peninsula
Cork - 2 nights
Dublin - 3 nights

Most driving will be coast line. The idea is not to spend the entire day driving.

Thank you.

Belfast ok
Larne Why? Why not Portrush/Portsuart?
Sligo from Portrush/stewart fine
Larne/Bushmills/Eniskillen wouldn't be my choice
Galway fine
Ennis Fine
Ventry close enough to Dingle town and far enough away
Cork big jump from Ventry
Dublin might pinch a night to use elsewhere?

Lots to see in the Sligo area. I am partial to the Gleniff Horseshoe and Glencar Waterfall.

We liked Enniskillen...shopping at the Buttermarket, Marble Arch Caves, other things we didn't have time for but looked interesting. I have a B&B recommendation if you opt for there.

Dublin 3 nights probably means 2 full days and plenty to fill those depending on what your interests are.

t2p - I'll check out Portrush.

For Larne, I just thought it would be a simple day one drive on the coast, since it's been a few years since I've driven on the left side of the road.

I'll later head to Scotland, but would much rather go to an Irish Whiskey distillery, as I like Irish Whiskey.

Do you have a choice rather than Cork?

Thanks,

Rasta.

Personally I would be driving round dingle between Ennis and a couple of nights Killarney or Kenmare then Beara on the way to one night in Cork. Maybe call into Jamesons in Middleton.

Avarest is a place we use in Portrush. http://www.avarest.com/ there are a few pins in this map that are on that section http://goo.gl/maps/YvZNc

t2p - Avarest is one of the places I was looking at yesterday. Just trying to get a handle on the town.

I will do Beara, rather than the ROK. It seems that that would be my longest day of driving on this trip.

jaja - you are correct, I'll be arriving Dublin sometime in the afternoon. I have 3 nights booked mainly because I'm using hotels points to stay there. Zero cost is always good.

Avarest sits above the harbour east of the beach (which is the nosier end of town) the rooms at the front look out over the bay. there are a couple of bars and eating spots on the harbour and the avenue. Harbour bar is a bistro pub and a good spot for a reasonable priced meal. Rogues is a good music bar. tend not to bother with the east of town but there are a couple of good bars in Portstuart for earlier in the evening before parking up the car

I've booked the Averest. I did check out the Harbour bar.

I read some things that likened Portrush to Blackpool or Brighton. The American version is Coney Island.

I've been to Brighton. Tacky fun in its own way.

That's why we avoid the western/beach end and stay down by the harbour later on.

We are currently in Killarney and drove down the coast from Sligo. Sligo was a little gritty but we liked it. Westport was our favorite. Galway was fine but a little harder to get in and out of. Drove through Ventry today. Looked like a nice spot. Killarney is jammed with tourists, but we expected that. Trip to the Blaskets was a highlight so far.
