Train Naples to Rome ?
Hi Guys.
I have been looking into trains from Naples to Rome in mid August and have seen mention of reduced 'mini' fares in forums. I'm willing to book in advance to save money on a faster train but would not be willing to pay the full amt of €45 per person for the fast rain, so my other option is Inter city train which I've read is €22 each. However when I go onto italiarail.com I don't see mention of 'mini' fare prices. I see I can get an intercity train at a 20% Family discount for €72 second class - how is this a discount if it should be €22?
I'm sure Im missing something obvious here and thanks for any help in making this clearer!

I would try pricing as all adults and see if you get better prices.
There is another train company that started a few years ago, Italorail. Their trains depart Napoli Centrale and arrive Roma Tiburtina, not Termini. Tiburtina is a major station on the metro and a major bus hub. You might find discounts with them and their trains are only a couple of years old.

48€ for how many people? I find a price of 88€ for the fast train for 2 adults and 2 children (not clear what you are tying to price) for your date.

For 2 adults and one 13 YO, that 48 Euro price wouldn't be too bad at all....as long as you're reasonably sure that you'll be able to catch the train concerned!
It's certainly better than any of the discounted fares for 3 adults for that day... and the IC is our preferred way of getting between Naples and Rome - with a much more interesting route than that followed by the fastest trains, the Freccias and those of their rival...
Perhaps noting that Italo Treno have deals that may be of interest for travel on that VERY BUSY day, if you're OK with arriving at Roma Tiburtina station, rather than Termini?

Hi all, details: Two adults and one teen age 13 travelling on the 19th August not fussy what time although I would like to get to Rome for early afternoon and not have to leave too early... ( or is better to travel before it gets very hot?), the €48 was for 2 adults 1 child on intercity, however I then read that a child was 12 and under so when I changed selection to 3 adults it brought it up around €58 which would only be a few euro saving on the €22 per head for intercity if I just buy ticket on the day?
We are staying near the Patheon so would be other station be as convienent do you think?
Essentially I would like to travel on the fast train but am not willing to pay twice the price for the pleasure so if I can't get a discount I'll just go for IC

Personally, I detest the IC trains. I would rather ride an old R train than an IC train, but an R train would take much longer.
I'm sure there is some bus service, but doubt it would be much cheaper than the IC train and no faster.

Italo has a summer promotion where kids up to age 15 are free until August 31. It's a super nice train and goes from Naples Centrale to Rome Tiburtina every hour.

I don't think the 12 year age is accurate. Trenitalia tends to update the Italian version better than the English version. You can see on the kids travel free the age is under 15.

Of the day's choices, we find the 10:12 IC train to be the most convenient when visiting Rome from here on Ischia - with a sea crossing to do first, it's then just right... as we can be checked-in at the hotel and out again in time for lunch!
To catch that one you'd probably need to leave Sant'Agnello at around the same 08:30 time that we do - with an hour's ride to the 'Napoli Garibaldi' station on the Circumvesuviana train...

Using what's currently available for that train on your travel date as an example, rather than accepting the deal initially offered ("Economy" level tickets for two adults and one child for €48 ), instead click on "Select", and then on " VIEW OTHER PRICES AND SERVICES..... ", and then "Continue"
On the next screen, reset the entry in the "Offer" column for each person to "Bimbi Gratis" - to eventually come up with a Total of €49....
By paying that extra 1 Euro, you'll get the more-transferable "Base" level tickets... just in case anything might go awry!

Is it likely they will sell out - am I safer to book this now you think?
I take it I could walk up to buy the €22 tickets and that price would be gone on the day - is that it?
We can't check in to our apartment in Rome until 2 so no point being there to early with luggage which is unfortunate - I'd like an early start to our first day in Rome!

The walk up price for the IC train is 24.50€ per person. Walk up price for the AV train is 43€ per person. A particular train could sell out and you could have to wait for the next one. The AV trains run two per hour in the mornings. The IC trains, not as often.

Perhaps too late now... but, as a solution to your "too early, with luggage" issue - how about the service these people offer? Have them meet you on arrival, and bring it to your apartment whenever suits you best!
