How near and how much?
There is a Sheraton and a Citizen M actually at the airport, plus a Yotel in the terminal building.
There are plenty of hotels nearby with shuttles, or any number a short train ride away in Amsterdam.

We stay at the IBIS when we fly from Schiphol, and leave our car there, using their shuttle to the airport.

We stayed at the Sheraton IN the airport twice last week (coming and going). It's super-convenient because you don't have to go outside, they have luggage carts in the lobby, etc. The rooms were ok - first one was renovated, but the A/C wasn't great, second one wasn't renovated, but had a more comfortable bed and the A/C worked. We got the hotel both nights using Hotwire (the area is called "Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Walking Distance") and paid about 60% of the rack rate. I think I paid about $125USD a night.

I agree with sf7307 - The Sheraton is great! As stated, it's inside the airport, and, of course, the Schiphol airport is gorgeous - so you'll enjoy that part too.

We are spending 24 hours there. Would like about $125-$150 per night

If you have 24 hours on the ground why not look for a place in central Amsterdam?

Are you arriving late and leaving the next night (as we did the first time), or arriving early and leaving early the next morning?

we arrive mid day and leave mid day the next day. Have been to Amsterdam several times...would rather stay near airport and take tram into town

Then use Hotwire and pick "walking Distance" like I said above. We got the Sheraton both times we did this.

I recommend a train rather than a tram. The train schedule is more reliable. Check the time schedule for the last train/tram back to Schiphol if you plan on a late night in town.

We stayed 3 nights at the Sheraton and actually took train into Amsterdam each day- super easy, fast and then we were ready to leave right from airport. This was at the end of a 3 week bike trip.Lots of places to eat there and great for last minute gifts( Godiva chocolate, anyone?)
