Flying to Munich from the US

Does anyone have suggestions for the airline with the most comfortable economy seating from the US to Munich?

I would look at the following seating configurations assuming you are flying in Economy: some airlines offer premium economy with a bit more leg room; others do not.

Lufthansa, United, possibly USAirways..all on seatguru.com

You do not tell us, however, from which city and that will obviously bring some possible limitations./\

My flight from Munich to Newark, NJ, with Lufthansa was, by far, my most comfortable flight ever. For international travel, I rank them in comfort in this order: Lufthansa, Delta, USAirways, and Austrian Airlines.

Thanks Dukey, I was looking for personal recommendations. Thanks KL467. I had heard good things about Lufthansa. And of course I could practice my German en route.

There is at least one flight a day and maybe two flights a day from Dulles International Airport to
To Munich. unless is an easy airport to deal with. I don't know anything about airport hotels, though
If you need one. Maybe another fodorite does.

We (family of four) round-tripped one year to Munich on Lufthansa. They grossly overbooked the return flight and it was full by time we arrived at the airport 3 hours early. They sent us to Zurich with 2 reserved seats and 2 standby continuation to Atlanta on Swiss Air. We all got on. The stewardess did get my wife and I (the standbys) together. The seat next to me was taken by a young man from Africa who had no concept of his space vs. mine. The two Americans ahead of us fully reclined their seatbacks the whole way except (luckily) for meals. It was the worst trans-Atlantic flight in 8 trips.

Actually, I think Lufthansa and Swiss Air are probably pretty good. I just have little faith in picking a flight by the personal experiences.

BTW, Lufthansa very generously rewarded us for the booking foul-up. In the end, I considered it a winner.

Good luck with your trip. Go with an open mind. Gary

Swiss in economy has NO leg room. I try to fly UA instead of Swiss to get to Zurich from Ohare.

Tut mir leid! Sorry! I should have said I'm flying from Detroit. My choices are Air Canada, Delta, KLM, Lufthanasa, UA, Air France, British Airways.

We recently flew Air Canada Dallas-Toronto-Munich and were very pleased with Air Canada (777-300 from Toronto). The economy seats are well-padded and there is more legroom than in many other planes. Also, the food was tasty. Lufthansa is also an excellent choice and we look forward to flying with them to Frankfurt on our next trip.

I seem to get more or less leg room depending on the type of aircraft over the brand on the side of the plane. One thing I would consider is which airports you are going through. I personally hate CDG in Paris and Franfurt is not far behind. I would choose one of the UK airports, Copenhagen or Amsterdam if I had a choice.

Last month I flew Economy Plus on United and I thought it was worth the extra money. I got a bulkhead seat so I had all the legroom I needed. I was on a 777 from IAD to MUC (and back) and there were movies on demand plus many video games. I had never played video games before on a plane but I got really hooked on a game called Bejeweled.

Cowboy, I think the name of a fun video game for the trip is relevant info for anyone reading this thread and I'm very happy I could help you with that.

BTW, you can download it and play on your computer.
