Family Vacation to Anywhere?

Hi! I am trying to plan a family vacation for my family of 8 during the second week of August. I am trying to keep it budget friendly. We are not against flying, but tickets seem to be costly when you need 8 (FYI: we will fly out of Boston Logan). We also are not against traveling outside of the USA if it is cheapest enough.

Where is the best place that we can have an amazing vacation but save a little cash?

You need to be a LOT more specific!

What is your budget for everything (travel, meals lodging, activities, etc.)?

What do you want to do? Beach, hiking, amusement parks, historic sites?

Do you want hotels or motels or self-catering cottages or campgrounds?

Post more details, and then people will be happy to help you. It's hard to make suggestions if no one knows what your interests are.

From your starting point of Boston, I'd look at the coast of Maine, including Arcadia Nat. Park, Mackinac Island or Traverse Bar region of Michigan the Outer Banks of North Carolina or maybe Quebec, Canada.
Don't think anyplace outside the US would rank as cheap mostly because of air fare.

What age kids? The Tyler Place in Vermont is all inclusive, has by-age activities, not cheap, but drivable.

Driving is going to be a LOT cheaper with 8 people. But is your vehicle large enough to be comfortable?

In August, coastal New England will be sold out and expensive.

DC has expensive lodging, but most attractions are free.

You could do Harper's Ferry, Gettysburg, river rafting in W. Virgina.

Niagara Falls

Central VT

Hi guys, thanks for the answers-much appreciated. The group is 6 kids, ages 21 to 10 and 2 adults. I would say that our budget would be somewhere around $5,000. We would prefer a self-catering place, but we are NOT a camping type of family. We do have a car big enough and comfortable enough for a long drive; we drove down to the Outer Banks, NC last summer.
