Itinerary help in Austria/CHZ

Continuing on after a 8N trip in Swiss, we (in our mid thirties and travelling with girls aged 4 and 6.) are hoping to take an evening train from Zurich to Salzburg. and have 9 days to split between Salzburg,Vienna and Prague. your expert advise will be much appreciated.

25th JUL - 3N/2days in Salzburg. (SOM tour, marionette show, hohensalzburg fortress, trick fountain,st peters church and explore Altmkt area)

early morning train to Vienna (3hrs ride)3N/2.5 days in Vienna.

train to vienna and then do the Wachau valley cuise.
2 days Vienna sights.

Q - would the Wachau valley Danube cruise and stop over in Melk/Durnstein be better en route from Salzburg rather than from Vienna ..
Can we forward the luggage direct to Vienna for later pick up from station and do the tour enroute?
what is the best way to do it? would like to cruise part of it and may be short hike. but wont be able to bike it with 2 kids i think?

Is there a walking tour that can easily followed in Vienna listed in any guide books. I only looked at LP. may be the suggested http://smartguide.co.at/will be an option.

morning train to PRAGUE. or bus to Cesky Krumlov??
4N/4 days Prague
Would like to visit Cesky krumlov from Prague.

is it better to take a bus to CK from Vienna (how safe is this?/I prefer train travel to bus usually) may be stay one night and then continue on for 3N in Prague. Any recommended bus companies.?

Or is it better as a day trip from Prague?

You'll probably be taking a bus to Cesky Krumlov either way. Train service from Prague to Cesky Krumlov requires a change in Ceske Budejovice, and then the train station is a bit of a walk from the center of Cesky Krumlov. By contrast, there are direct buses between Prague and Cesky Krumlov and the bus drops you closer to the center than the train station is.

If you can get a direct bus or shuttle from Vienna to Cesky Krumlov, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to take it.

Like many popular tourist spots, Cesky Krumlov is busy during the day with tour groups and much more quiet and pleasant at night. You might enjoy it more spending a night. Plus, if you do it as a day trip from Prague, you'll be spending 3hrs each way on a bus (or if you take a train, 3.5 hours and a longer walk).

Another option would be to take a train from Vienna to the Czech city of Brno and rent a car there, drive to Cesky Krumlov, and drop the car in Prague (where you won't need it). A two-day car rental might incur a one-way drop fee, though. (Renting in Vienna would incur an even steeper drop fee if you drop in another country.) But if you were driving, you could make a few extra stops in Southern Bohemia and see an extra town or two. I'd probably recommend this option only if you were going to spend more than one night between Vienna and Prague.

A ride in an open carriage around the centre of Vienna pulled by a horse might be a good start since you're travelling with quite young children - the carriages line up next to st. Stephen's Cathedral in the city centre. For walks I'd look up the Vienna tourist website. Rough Guide and Lonely Planet are pretty good for suggestions on how to see cities.
