Public transportation from JFK to Penn Station - time and cost?

Hi guys!

Can somebody tell me how long the transportation time from JFK to Penn Station is when taking the Air Train to Jamaica and then the LIRR? Furthermore, how much does it cost and where do I buy tickets? I think I've read something about having to buy two seperate tickets for each train, is that true?

Thanks so much for your help!

Time: about 50 minutes.

Cost: About $12.00 -- $50 for the Airtrain from JFK to Jamaica and $7.00 for the LIRR Train to Penn Station. You can save $4.50 by taking the E train instead, but it adds around ten minutes to your trip time.

Note that prices are for off-peak travel.

I think that you can buy a card that is good for both. More info at e bottom of this page: http://www.panynj.gov/airports/jfk-airtrain.html

Airtrain is terrific. Easy. Clean. Well utilized.

The "E" train will also take you to Penn Station fom the same terminal as the LIRR in Jamaica but will take about 20 minutes more.

Sparkie meant to wite that is $5 for the Airtrain, not $50.

From JFK, you take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station. You will pay for the AirTrain as you EXIT at Jamaica. Follow everyone else out to the left and you will be on an upper level of the Jamaica LIRR station--there are ticket machines here to buy your ticket to Penn Station. From this level, you can access each of the departure tracks. Your Penn Station-bound train will probably depart from track 1 or 2.
