romantic colorado trip

We are taking a trip to Colorado this summer and neither of us have ever been. We will be in Vail and Telluride mostly. I have read plenty of websites that list many trails and white water rafting trips. Those are great, but our main goal this trip is to relax. I was hoping some people more familiar with the area could suggest some must see sights and romantic settings.

Thank you ahead of time for any and all suggestions.

I forgot to ask if there were any great wineries near either town?

There are no wineries near Telluride. Weather not conducive to growing grapes. There is also no white water rafting near Telluride. Telluride tends to cater to those who love the outdoors.

Are you renting a car? I assume so.

Must sees would be driving the Million Dollar Highway which is a loop trail. Pretty scenery.

Box Canyon Falls in Ouray is nice to see and there are some great hot springs in town as well.

The Durango Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad is fun, take it only one way and take the bus back.

You can raft in Durango, but depending on when you are there, the water may be pretty low with no real class falls.

Mesa Verde National Park is worth 2 days of time to explore.

In Telluride, take the free lift to get nice views.

There are fesitvals almost every weekend during the summer in Telluride and the town can get VERY crowded and there are often minimum number of days required for accommodations. Make sure you have a place to stay ahead of time; don't try to go without a reservation. It is best to go to Telluride Monday - Friday to avoid the crowds.

I might have to say that as much as I have loved Vail for skiing in the past, I'm not sure it is a real "romantic" setting.
The rivers will be low in the summer--you'll have to search for rafting.

Colorado wine country is around Palisade - maybe 25 wineries. Along I-70 between just east of Grand Junction.

Dinner at The Ranch or Aspen Glow at Keystone can be very romantic especially if there around sunset.

Any particular reason you chose Vail and Telluride?

we heard both places were beautiful. I'm sure most of the areas nearby are as well. thanks for the suggestions . If anyone else has any recommendations for romantic places to dine or take in views at either location please let me know. Does anyone have any recommendations for Mountain Village?

Allred's at mid Mountain in Telluride has great views and food to match. The food is much better in the Village of Telluride, [better than in Mountain Village]. More selection of places too.

For best dining -
Cosmopolitan
New Sheridan Chop House
221 South Oak

This is a bit dated, but it is fairly accurate even now.
